Jessica Simpson hints ex Eric Johnson cheated in savage new song months after heartbreaking split

Jessica Simpson appears to be channeling her heartbreak into music, as fans believe her latest track, Leave, hints at alleged infidelity by her estranged husband, Eric Johnson.

The singer, 44, and the former NFL player, 45, announced their separation last year after over a decade of marriage, during which they welcomed three children.

Now, with her highly anticipated comeback to music, Simpson has seemingly poured her emotions into Leave,

a deeply personal song that suggests betrayal may have played a role in the breakdown of her marriage.

Lyrics That Raise Eyebrows

The powerful track features searing lyrics that imply Johnson may have been unfaithful during their marriage. In one verse, Simpson sings:

“What we had was magic / Now you’ve made it tragic / Giving her what you gave to me / Now the well that you drank from is empty.”

The raw emotion continues with the lines:

“Your weakness made me lonely / Unholy matrimony / Did you do to her what you did to me?”

Simpson doesn’t hold back, seemingly addressing the pain of being deceived:

“Was she on her knees? / She’s everything but me.”

The lyrics paint a picture of heartbreak and betrayal, with the singer also hinting at suspicions that Johnson may have been thinking of another woman while with her.

She later declares her independence in the song’s chorus, powerfully stating:

“I want you to leave / I don’t even wanna breathe the air you breathe / I am stronger on my own.”

These pointed lyrics have left fans speculating that Simpson is using her music as a way to process the alleged turmoil in her marriage. Neither Simpson nor Johnson have publicly addressed the exact reason for their split, but this track has certainly intensified rumors.

A Long-Awaited Musical Comeback

Simpson’s new album, which is her first in 15 years, is shaping up to be a deeply personal project. Sources close to the singer describe the upcoming record as “gritty” and “a soundtrack to her soul.” One insider even compared it to Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill, known for its raw and emotional lyrics about heartbreak and betrayal.

The 44-year-old has been working alongside musician JD McPherson to craft this comeback album. Much of the recording took place in Nashville, where she tapped into her country roots.

According to sources, Leave is just the beginning, and fans should expect more emotionally charged songs that reflect the struggles she faced in her marriage. The album, which is expected to be released in early 2025, will dive deep into Simpson’s personal experiences, offering listeners an unfiltered look at her heartache and resilience.

Hints of Trouble Before the Split

While Simpson and Johnson officially announced their separation last year, signs of trouble had been surfacing for months. The last time Simpson posted a photo with Johnson was in September 2023. Prior to that, she noticeably did not acknowledge his birthday on social media, fueling speculation about their relationship status.

Adding to the whispers, Johnson was seen without his wedding ring on multiple occasions, leading many to believe that the couple had been struggling for some time before making their split public.

Simpson herself dropped cryptic hints in late 2023, sharing a reflective post about reclaiming her power. She wrote:

“This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.”

Her words immediately caught fans’ attention, as many speculated that she was alluding to her marriage troubles.

A New Chapter for Jessica Simpson

Since parting ways with Johnson, Simpson has been focused on her family and career. She has been open about wanting to show her children—Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, 5—her strength and resilience through her music.

She previously expressed regret that her children had never seen her perform live, but her upcoming album marks a fresh start for both her career and personal life.

Fans are now eagerly anticipating the full album, especially as Leave sets the stage for what is expected to be an emotionally charged project. With her raw lyrics and unfiltered emotions, Jessica Simpson is proving that she’s back—and she’s not holding anything back this time.
