Jesy Nelson, the former Little Mix star, has shared a heartbreaking update with fans after revealing that her twin pregnancy is at risk due to complications.

The 33-year-old singer and her partner, Zion Foster, announced earlier this year that they were expecting twins. 

Jesy, who has been open with her followers throughout her pregnancy, has now shared the emotional reality that her unborn babies are facing serious health risks.

In a tearful video shared with her followers, Jesy explained that she and Zion had been closely monitoring the pregnancy after doctors discovered that the twins were sharing a single placenta, 

which could lead to dangerous complications. Jesy disclosed that the condition, known as twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), 

was a concern and that she had been undergoing regular scans to check on the babies’ health.

TTTS occurs when blood is not evenly distributed between the twins, potentially causing one baby to receive an excess of nutrients while the other is deprived. This can lead to severe consequences, including the possibility of both babies not surviving. In Jesy’s case, the singer was initially diagnosed with pre-stage TTTS and had been monitoring the condition closely with medical professionals.

However, Jesy’s health has taken a turn for the worse in recent days. In an emotional video update, she explained, “I’ve been feeling a bit poorly the past few days, been having a few symptoms that I need to watch out for, like my belly tightening and struggling to breathe.” She continued by revealing that her symptoms had worsened, prompting her doctors to recommend surgery to give the babies the best chance of survival. “It’s necessary because it will give our babies the best chance of surviving,” she said tearfully, as her partner Zion comforted her.

Jesy’s video was filled with raw emotion as she spoke about the gravity of the situation. “I feel gutted, I feel absolutely gutted, because I really was hoping that we wouldn’t be in this position,” she admitted, breaking down in tears. “We’re just hoping and praying for the best.” Zion, who has been by her side throughout this difficult time, reassured her, reminding her that the surgery was necessary to give their family the best shot at survival.

While Jesy expressed her fears, she also took a moment to highlight the importance of raising awareness about the condition. “We had no clue that this kind of thing happens when you have twins,” she explained. “We just really want to raise awareness because there are so many people who don’t know about this.” Many of her fans flooded the comments with messages of support and prayers for the couple, wishing them strength and sending positive thoughts.

Jesy and Zion’s twins are considered mono/di twins, meaning they share a single placenta but have separate amniotic sacs. Mono/di twins represent around 20% of all twin pregnancies. While most mono/di twins are healthy, they are at a much higher risk of complications compared to other types of twin pregnancies. This is why Jesy’s pregnancy is being closely monitored, with scans twice a week to ensure the twins are receiving the care they need.

The complications Jesy is facing are not uncommon for those carrying mono/di twins. Twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome affects around 15 to 20% of these pregnancies. It can cause a range of issues, from growth discrepancies between the twins to severe health problems or even loss of one or both of the babies. In some cases, surgery may be required to correct the imbalance in blood flow and give the babies a better chance of survival.

Jesy’s fans have been incredibly supportive during her pregnancy journey, which she shared with excitement in January when she first revealed she was expecting. At the time, she joyfully announced she was “eating for 3” as she showed off her growing baby bump on social media. Jesy has been sharing her experiences as an expectant mother and expressing her joy, even while facing the challenges of her complicated pregnancy.

Jesy’s journey has not been without its struggles. After leaving Little Mix in 2020, citing mental health reasons, Jesy took a break from the public eye. She returned to social media in early 2023, and instead of announcing her debut solo album, she shared her pregnancy news with her followers.
