Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has shared the uplifting news that her cancer is in remission.
This announcement comes after a challenging year, during which the royal revealed her diagnosis in March and underwent extensive treatment.
On January 14, 2024, the Princess took to social media to express her gratitude toward the healthcare professionals
who supported her throughout her journey.
“I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year,” Middleton wrote on X.
She continued, extending heartfelt thanks to those who stood by her and her family.
“My heartfelt thanks go to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything.”
In her post, the 43-year-old princess spoke about the exceptional care she received from The Royal Marsden, a leading cancer treatment hospital. As joint patron of the hospital alongside her husband, Prince William, Kate expressed her desire to further support research and improve the patient experience through her new role. “My hope is that by supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family wellbeing, we might save many more lives, and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer,” she said.
Reflecting on her remission, Kate expressed relief but acknowledged the ongoing process of recovery. “It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery,” she shared. “As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am, however, looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”
On January 14, Middleton visited the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, where she had received her own treatment. During the visit, she took the opportunity to meet with patients and offer her support. “I wanted to come and show my support for the amazing work that’s going on here and for those who are going through treatment and having such a hard time,” she said. Middleton also opened up about her own experience, discussing the long-term challenges faced by cancer patients even after treatment ends. “You think treatment’s finished, crack on with that… daily tasks, but that’s still like a real challenge,” she explained.
Kate’s diagnosis came after she underwent abdominal surgery earlier in the year, and she first spoke publicly about it in March 2024. After months of treatment, she returned to her royal duties in June for the Trooping the Colour parade. In September, Kate revealed that she had completed her preventative chemotherapy, but acknowledged that recovery would be an ongoing process.
Reflecting on the emotional and physical toll the diagnosis took on her and her family, Kate had shared that it had been an incredibly tough period. “The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant, and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown,” she wrote at the time. Despite the challenges, she expressed gratitude for the support she received from those around her. “William and I are so grateful for the support we have received and have drawn great strength from all those who are helping us at this time.”
In her message, Middleton also offered encouragement to others who are facing cancer. “To all those who are continuing their own cancer journey – I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright,” she said.
Kate Middleton’s journey is a testament to resilience and the power of support. With her cancer now in remission, the Princess of Wales remains dedicated to her charitable work and to helping others who are impacted by cancer. She is moving forward with hope and gratitude, determined to make a difference in the lives of others facing similar challenges.
As she continues her recovery, Kate Middleton is set to take on new royal duties and public engagements in the coming months, with the promise of a hopeful future ahead.
