Katie Price shares update on mum’s health six years after terminal diagnosis

Katie Price has recently shared a heartbreaking update on her mother, Amy Price’s health, providing fans with a deeper understanding of the challenges her family is facing.

Amy, 73, has been battling idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a progressive lung disease that leads to the scarring of the lungs and makes breathing increasingly difficult.

Diagnosed in 2017, Amy’s prognosis was initially grim, with doctors giving her a life expectancy of up to five years.

However, in November 2022, Amy underwent a lung transplant in a bid to improve her quality of life.

On a recent episode of The Katie Price Show, a podcast she co-hosts with her sister Sophie, Katie, 46, reflected on the significant changes her mother has faced since the diagnosis.

Amy’s struggle with the disease has taken a profound toll on her independence.

Katie opened up about how her mother, despite her active mind, is no longer able to do many of the things she once enjoyed, leading to frustration and emotional pain for Amy. Katie expressed her empathy, saying, “I do feel for you, mum, because people have to understand what my mum’s gone through. Like, her brain is just so active and still switched on. She can’t do the things that she used to do, which is frustrating for her.”

Katie shared a particular instance during a conversation with her mum about the upcoming Isle of Wight Festival, where Amy suggested they go shopping and wondered whether she should use her walker or wheelchair. Katie, ever the practical one, decided they would take the wheelchair. She admitted, “I’m not taking an hour” to get around, but her mother, ever the fighter, pushed back. “It’s not doing me any good because I’m meant to walk to help myself,” Amy said. Katie explained that these moments show the difficulty of balancing her mum’s need for independence with the reality of her physical limitations.

The emotional toll of witnessing her mother’s declining health has led Katie to reevaluate her own habits. After a year of vaping, Katie revealed in a candid confession that she has decided to quit the habit, motivated by her mother’s struggles with lung disease. She described the act of vaping as “disrespectful” to her mum’s condition and urged others to follow suit. “I’ve decided that today is the day I am throwing this battery, chemical, addictive, horrible thing away,” Katie said. “I am not doing vapes no more from today.”

Katie has since shared that she has cleaned out her home and car of all vaping products, making a firm commitment to prioritizing her health. She emphasized the importance of setting a good example for her family, especially her mum, by kicking the habit. Katie’s decision to quit vaping was also influenced by a recent lung scan she had, which she admitted left her feeling nervous. Despite her anxieties, the results were positive, with the doctor giving her the all-clear and noting that her lungs were in excellent condition for her age.

Katie’s commitment to a healthier lifestyle reflects her desire to take control of her own health, particularly in light of the unpredictability of IPF. Amy’s condition fluctuates, with periods of improvement followed by challenging episodes. Katie’s support for her mother remains unwavering, and she has expressed deep concern for Amy’s well-being, especially after the lung transplant.

The emotional and physical challenges that Amy faces daily have created a shift in Katie’s perspective. Katie’s decision to quit vaping, coupled with her public efforts to stay healthy, illustrates a powerful message about the impact of chronic illness on family dynamics and how it can motivate change. As Katie continues to support her mother through her health struggles, she also encourages others to take their health seriously and seek positive lifestyle changes.

Katie’s update also sheds light on the importance of raising awareness for rare diseases like IPF, which often go unnoticed until it’s too late. With her platform, Katie hopes to educate her followers and keep them informed about her mum’s journey while also focusing on her own health and wellness.
