King Charles revealed he has a special feeling for Rihanna: ‘Thanks to my son Harry, I got to know this wonderful girl’ (video)

The Prince of Wales took everyone by surprise when he showed a good knowledge of Bajan singer, performer and businesswoman Rihanna.

Prince Charles, who on Tuesday stopped to Barbados as part of his royal tour of the Caribbean, listed her among one of the hugely influential women born on the island.

Including its Governor-General and the Prime Minister.

He said: “Barbados offers an inspirational example through the remarkable number of women in positions of national leadership.

“Not only the Governor-General and the Prime Minister, but also the Leader of the other main political party, as well as the Director of Public Prosecutions.

“And then, of course, there is arguably the most famous living Bajan of all.

“From her childhood in Bridgetown, Rihanna, has gone on to be one of the most influential recording artists of her generation and a global style icon.”

The Prince of Wales was quick to explain how he knew so much about Rihanna, adding: “Or so my son, Harry, tells me, anyway!”

The Umbrella hitmaker and Prince Harry famously met in December 2016, when the youngest son of Prince Charles was on his own royal tour of the Caribbean.

As he made a stop in Bridgetown, where she was born, on December 1, known as World Aids Day, the pair visited together an HIV drop-in centre and took part in an AIDS test, which came back negative for both, to encourage more people to get tested.

The night before they had also attended together a concert, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Barbados independence.

During his visit to Barbados, Prince Charles also met another music icon, American singer Lionel Richie, as he was named the first Global Ambassador for the Prince’s Trust.

The pair appeared to be quite happy to meet as they were pictured shaking hands, smiling and greeting each other.

Prince Charles arrived at St Lucia on Monday with Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, to kick off his 12-day royal tour.
