Lara Trump reveals president’s reaction to her first Fox News show and the surprising way she’s ‘proven him wrong’

Lara Trump has officially stepped into the world of television as the host of My View with Lara Trump, and her debut on Fox News has been nothing short of remarkable.

The 42-year-old mother of two shattered records with her premiere episode, drawing in an impressive audience that even caught her father-in-law,

former President Donald Trump, by surprise. Despite his initial skepticism, the former president has since become one of her biggest supporters,

praising her success and offering his congratulations.

A Record-Breaking Debut

Lara Trump’s entrance into the conservative media landscape has proven to be a major success.

Her new Fox News show debuted to an audience of 2.4 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Saturday 9:00 p.m. slot since the breaking news coverage of the attempted assassination attempt on Donald Trump in July 2024. Of those tuning in, 290,000 viewers were between the key demographic ages of 25 and 54, solidifying her as a strong presence in political media.

Despite her early success, Lara revealed that the former president initially believed that her ratings would only soar if he appeared on the show. “Of course, he told me that the only way that I was going to get a huge audience is if I had him on,” she admitted. While she playfully refrained from saying she had “proven him wrong,” the impressive ratings suggest otherwise. Still, she acknowledged that when he eventually does make an appearance, the numbers may climb even higher.

Donald Trump’s Support and Missed Calls

Donald Trump has been vocal in his support for his daughter-in-law’s new role, but his efforts to personally congratulate her didn’t go as planned. Lara shared that he called her twice after the show aired to express how proud he was of her performance. Unfortunately, she missed both calls because she was on a plane each time. Despite this, she remains appreciative of his encouragement, calling him her “biggest cheerleader.”

Plans for Future Guests and Diverse Perspectives

Although the show is rooted in conservative commentary, Lara has made it clear that she wants My View with Lara Trump to be a platform for a variety of voices. She has already welcomed key figures from the Trump circle, including White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, former Attorney General Pam Bondi, and National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard. However, she also expressed interest in bringing on Democrats and other critics of the Trump administration to create a more well-rounded discussion.

Some of the names she hopes to feature on her show include Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman and comedian Bill Maher. While she remains firm in her political stance, she wants viewers to know that her primary goal is to provide deeper insights and broader perspectives on important issues. “You know what side I’m on, you know for whom I voted, and you know that I obviously want to see this country succeed with my father-in-law as president,” she said. “But I think anyone who tunes into the show regularly will very quickly learn that I’m simply trying to give more insights.”

Addressing Criticism Over the Show’s Title

One of the first criticisms surrounding My View with Lara Trump was its title, which closely resembles ABC’s The View, a long-running talk show known for its predominantly liberal panel. Addressing the similarity, Lara explained that the name accurately reflects the nature of her program. “It is really what this show is all about,” she said. “It’s my view on things and my perspective.”

Despite their differing political ideologies, Lara holds no animosity toward the hosts of The View and even suggested that she would be open to appearing on the show if invited.

Choosing Television Over Politics

Lara Trump’s decision to pursue a television career came after she considered running for the U.S. Senate in Florida. However, she ultimately chose a media role over politics due to her commitment to her family. She expressed concerns about the demands of a political career, particularly for mothers with young children.

“My kids need me. They want me around. That doesn’t last forever,” she explained. The opportunity at Fox News felt like the right path for her at this stage in her life, stating, “It just feels like this is the position that God is pushing me in.”

While acknowledging that some women in politics manage to balance their careers with motherhood, she pointed out the unique challenges of serving in the Senate while raising young children. “It’s not that they don’t have the drive to do it. It’s very challenging to be away from your children if you don’t move them fully to D.C. for the amount of time it’s necessary to do the job of United States Senator,” she said.

A Bright Future in Media

With her debut breaking records and the former president’s strong support, Lara Trump has positioned herself as a rising voice in conservative media. As she continues to build her presence on Fox News, she aims to bring transparency, insight, and meaningful discussions to her audience. Whether or not Donald Trump eventually appears on her show, Lara has already proven that she can hold her own in the world of political commentary.
