Loose Women star Ruth Langsford speaks out about her divorce from Eamonn Holmes for the first time

Ruth Langsford has opened up about her divorce from Eamonn Holmes, speaking publicly for the first time about the end of their 14-year marriage.

The renowned TV presenter admitted that although the experience of their split has been “difficult,”

she is embracing her newfound single status and focusing on making decisions that are “just about me.”

In a candid interview with *Woman&Home* magazine, Ruth discussed the emotional toll of the divorce, acknowledging the pain that comes with the end of a significant relationship.

Despite the challenging circumstances, she expressed a sense of acceptance, saying that she is now trying to make the most of her life moving forward.

“I’m not delighted my marriage is over, but I’ve accepted that my marriage is over,” Ruth shared.

“So I am trying to now embrace the fact that I’m single and can make choices that are just about me.”

The couple’s split, which was confirmed in the summer of 2024, came as a shock to their fans and the public, as they had been one of the most beloved TV duos in the UK. Eamonn and Ruth had been together for over two decades, sharing both a personal and professional life. They first met in 1997 through mutual friends, and after a long courtship, they married in 2010. Together, they raised their son Jack, and their relationship was often celebrated by fans.

However, Ruth admits that navigating the end of a relationship in the public eye has added an extra layer of difficulty.

“A break-up of a relationship is hard enough for anybody to deal with,” Ruth confessed. “A divorce is very difficult and it’s very painful, but most people don’t have to do it in the public eye, with everybody having an opinion about you and writing things about you and commenting things about you.”

Despite the public scrutiny, Ruth understands that this aspect of her life is part of the territory when working in television.

“But that’s the nature of my job. I’ve always had that and if you can’t cope with that, you shouldn’t be doing this job,” she said.

Ruth’s positive attitude toward moving forward is evident in her reflections on how she’s dealing with the emotional impact of the divorce. She acknowledged the inherent difficulty of relationship breakdowns, but she believes it’s crucial to face these challenges with resilience.

“Relationship breakdowns are very difficult—marriage, friendship, whatever it is—but you just deal with it, and you have to move on. You can either let yourself crumble or you pick yourself up and get on with life. It’s a choice,” Ruth explained.

A noticeable effect of her split has been weight loss, which Ruth attributes not only to the stress of the divorce but also to a hormone check and rebalance that she underwent to improve her health. She remains focused on maintaining her well-being, ensuring that she stays on top of her health appointments.

“I have lost weight. Divorce obviously has something to do with it, but I also went for a hormone check and rebalance, which helped. It could also hopefully mean that I’m coming to the end of menopause,” she revealed.

Through it all, Ruth has turned to work as a stabilizing factor in her life. “For a lot of people, whatever troubles you have, work is something that you have to get up and do. For me, it’s always been a good thing to dust myself down and concentrate on something else.”

The divorce, which was confirmed by a spokesperson in 2024, marked the end of Ruth and Eamonn’s long marriage. Their statement shared: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.” Following their split, Eamonn is said to have moved out of the family home and is now residing in a property nearby.

As Ruth navigates this new chapter of her life, she remains committed to her career and to focusing on her well-being. Though the breakup has been painful, she continues to demonstrate resilience and determination to thrive in her personal and professional life, making decisions that put her own happiness first.

With her openness about the challenges of divorce, Ruth Langsford has shown that even in the face of public scrutiny, it’s possible to embrace change, focus on self-care, and move forward in a positive direction.
