Loose Women’s Gypsy-Rose Blanchard interview blasted as convicted murderer appears on show

Loose Women faced intense backlash following its latest episode, which featured an interview with Gypsy-Rose Blanchard.

The 32-year-old, who was convicted of second-degree murder in 2016 for her role in the death of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, appeared on the ITV talk show via video link.

However, many viewers were outraged by her appearance, criticizing the show for giving her a platform.

Gypsy-Rose Blanchard’s Infamous Case

Gypsy’s story became widely known after it was revealed that her mother, Dee Dee, had subjected her to years of medical abuse due to Munchausen syndrome by proxy.

Dee Dee falsely claimed that her daughter was severely ill, forcing her to undergo unnecessary medical treatments and live as though she had multiple disabilities.

In 2015, Gypsy, with the help of her then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn, orchestrated her mother’s murder. Godejohn carried out the killing, stabbing Dee Dee 17 times while she slept. Afterward, he and Gypsy stayed in the house, and shocking details emerged that they had engaged in intimate activities while her mother’s body was in the next room.

Gypsy later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received a 10-year prison sentence. Meanwhile, Godejohn was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. However, in December 2023, Gypsy was released early for good behavior. Since her release, she has embarked on a media career, sharing her side of the story and discussing her life after prison.

Gypsy-Rose’s Loose Women Interview

On March 5, Loose Women hosts Jane Moore and Denise Welch interviewed Gypsy, giving her the opportunity to reflect on her past and discuss her journey since leaving prison.

Speaking about her mother’s manipulative behavior, Gypsy explained, “She had a very convincing personality, so a lot of times she would sweet-talk the doctors and appear very concerned about my health. I don’t think anyone would question a mother’s motives like that.”

She went on to describe the painful medical procedures she endured, including having her teeth removed and being prescribed medication that led to addiction. “There were a lot of things I had to go through. There’s no knowing if there are any long-term effects, but so far, I’m healthy,” she added.

Gypsy also opened up about becoming a mother for the first time. She and her husband, Ken Urker, welcomed their daughter, Aurora Raina, in January 2024. Discussing how motherhood has impacted her, she said, “I had been suffering from the trigger word ‘Mum’ or ‘Mother.’ But now that I am a mother, it has taken on a new meaning and is healing my inner child.”

She continued, “Getting to experience a mother and daughter’s love through her eyes has reshaped everything I believed about what a mother was, and it has done so for the positive.”

Viewer Outrage Over Gypsy’s Appearance

Despite her claims of personal growth, Loose Women faced major backlash for featuring Gypsy as a guest. Many viewers took to social media to express their outrage, arguing that a convicted murderer should not be given a public platform.

One angry viewer wrote, “Sorry, but what Gypsy and her boyfriend did was vile. He stabbed Dee Dee 17 times in the back while she slept. Then they had sex in the next room while her mother’s body bled out. That’s horrific, and here Loose Women are fawning over her.”

Another added, “In court, a video was shown where Gypsy acted out the murder for her boyfriend before he did it for real. This is not opinion—it’s fact. Why is she on TV being treated like a victim?”

A third person remarked, “Imagine interviewing a murderer live on TV and being sympathetic about it. She’s evil, end of.”

While some people continue to sympathize with Gypsy due to her traumatic past, many viewers believe that her actions cannot be excused. The debate over whether she should be seen as a victim or a criminal remains ongoing.

Should Convicted Criminals Be Given a Public Platform?

Gypsy’s Loose Women appearance has reignited discussions about whether convicted criminals, especially those involved in high-profile cases, should be given opportunities to share their stories on mainstream television. Some argue that her abuse at the hands of her mother makes her a victim, while others insist that she played an active role in planning and facilitating the murder.

As Gypsy continues to build her media presence, backlash against her public appearances is likely to persist. Whether the public accepts her redemption story or not, one thing is certain—her Loose Women interview has left many viewers outraged.
