Mary J. Blige’s Shocking Revelation: Retirement from Music to Pursue Acting Full-Time? (video)

The 53-year-old R&B legend stated in a recent interview that was released on April 29 that she plans to leave the music business in “five or six years.”

“At this point, I’m going to continue acting and I will definitely retire in five or six years,” Blige, who has appeared in Scream: Resurrection and The Umbrella Academy, said to EXTRA.

“At this moment, I continue to do what I do, but I don’t have to do it as frequently as I used to.”

Blige described the music she is now producing as “singing about life… love… Being steady and perceptive allows you to experience things like love. You can lead a fulfilling life.

She said to EXTRA, “mostly the love I have for myself.” “I found my true love, and it is me.”

The singer may be nearing the conclusion of her incredibly lucrative three-decade career in music,

but her accomplishments haven’t stopped flowing, as seen by her admission into the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fаme.

On April 21, Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gаng, Ozzy Osbourne, and A Tribe Called Quest were revealed as the new inductees on American Idol.

Blige expressed her shоck at the news by saying she is “still trying to process everything.”

The singer of “Just Fine” continued, telling Extra that receiving this kind of recognition is “the most amazing thing… it is in a class by itself.” Blige is scheduled to perform at the ceremony, which is scheduled for October 19 in Cleveland.

Blige discussed her third annual Strength of a Woman Festival and Summit with PEOPLE earlier this month. It will take place in her hometown of New York City over Mother’s Day weekend, from May 10–12.

Celebrities will be appearing at a number of events during the three-day festival, which is the only one organized by an all-Black team of wоmen. These events include the Strength of a Woman Summit at The Glasshouse and other inspirational seminars and programming.

“Doing what I always wаnted to do, continue to give people a piece of me, uplift us, inspire us and elevate us — the same way I’ve been doing through my music, I’m doing it through my festival right now — and of course, entertain us as well, has been amazing, exciting, and just so fulfilling,” Blige said to PEOPLE. “It is incredibly satisfying… Bringing it home means so much.

Blige hinted in the interview that the album she is working on might be her final one.

It may be the final studio album, but I still think it’s great and enjoyable. Perhaps it is,” she said to PEOPLE.
