Meghan is envious why Kate, not her, was singled out for King Charles’s grand birthday celebration

The Trooping the Colour, an annual highlight on the royal calendar, traditionally sees the Buckingham Palacebalcony packed with royals.

This year, however, the balcony for the magnificent RAF flypast may look notably sparse.

Following recent tradition, it is believed King Charles will invite only working royals to join him for the climax of his birthday celebrations.

This decision means younger royals like Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, will likely be absent.

The Sussexes, who now reside in California, have not been included in the royal lineup for some time.

Amid this slimmed-down family appearance, there is also uncertainty regarding the attendance of the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton.

Kate, 42, is currently undergoing preventative cancer treatment, casting doubt on her participation in the Trooping the Colour. While Kensington Palace confirmed that she would not be part of the final dress rehearsal on June 8, they have not ruled out her attendance at the main event a week later. Her potential absence has already begun to stir speculation and concerns among royal watchers.

Royal expert highlights importance of Kate Middleton’s presence

Royal expert and historian Dr. Tessa Dunlop believes Kate’s presence is crucial, describing her as “British royalty at its best.” Dunlop suggests that if Kate does not appear on the balcony, it will inevitably lead to renewed questions about Harry and Meghan. “Whether [Kate] will make a balcony appearance on the big day on June 15 remains the great unknown. My hunch is she will give us a wave, but if she doesn’t (entirely her prerogative) questions about Harry and Meghan are bound to surface,” she told the Mirror.

Dunlop also raised the possibility of reconsidering the roles of non-working royals like Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice. “This year that balcony cast will have even slimmer pickings if the Princess of Wales stays away. In which case might it be time to review the role of non-working royals? All those cousins who have long behaved with hallmark loyalty would surely relish the prospect of standing shoulder to shoulder with their King. After all, isn’t that what families are for?” she added.

This year’s Trooping the Colour will highlight just how much has changed for the royal family. Dr. Dunlop noted, “2024 is not royal service as usual. And nor should it be.” With the health of key royals like King Charles and Princess Kate taking priority, the royal family is navigating new realities. Despite these changes, the absence of Kate Middleton, known for her regal presence and elegance, will be deeply felt at this historic event.
