As someone who has reported on the British royal family for years, I can confirm that Meghan Markle looked like a total professional during her latest outings in Nigeria.

In fact, the Duchess of Sussex, 42, even used Kate Middleton’s go-to parenting move while chatting with a group of children. 

Last week, the Suits alum traveled to Nigeria with her husband, Prince Harry, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games.

The duo entered full on-parenting mode when they attended a basketball exhibition training match at Ilupeju Grammar School in Lagos.

In a moment captured by photographers, the Duchess of Sussex bent down to shake a child’s hand at eye-level. Although it was a quick gesture, there’s a hidden meaning behind it. 

The move can foster open communication and create a comfortable environment for children. It reduces dominance over youngsters and encourages them to communicate openly and freely.

Princess Catherine has used this approach on multiple occasions, including with her own children—Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (9) and Prince Louis (6)—and with kids she meets during royal outings. 

Markle wasn’t the only one who used the parenting move during this particular outing. Prince Harry did the same thing while greeting another child.

During the outing, Markle wore a striped blue wrap skirt, which she paired with a simple white blouse. The royal accessorized with sunglasses and nude heels. On the other hand, Prince Harry opted for a black pair of pants, a white button-down shirt and a tan sport coat.
