Michael Strahan sparks backlash with actions on FOX at Super Bowl – ‘Have to sell house’

Michael Strahan, a New York Giants legend, stirred controversy among fans

when he was seen waving a Philadelphia Eagles flag and sending them well wishes ahead of Super Bowl LIX.

The former defensive end, who spent his entire 15-year NFL career with the Giants and secured one Super Bowl victory, joked that his actions might force him to sell his home.

During the FOX Super Bowl 2025 pregame show, Strahan sat down with star running back Saquon Barkley,

whose decision to leave the Giants for their division rivals, the Eagles, was a major talking point earlier in the year.

Strahan admitted he was initially upset by Barkley’s move, saying, “I’m p***** for that, but I’m happy for you.”

Barkley, who transitioned to Philadelphia in March 2024, responded by acknowledging the difficulty of his decision.

“It felt weird, for sure,” Barkley admitted. “But now I got to do what’s best for my family. The pros for the Eagles outweighed everything. The only con about playing for the Philadelphia Eagles was that I’m a former Giant.”

Despite his initial frustration, Strahan ultimately showed his support for Barkley, who had an outstanding season, amassing 2,005 rushing yards and scoring 13 touchdowns. His efforts, along with those of quarterback Jalen Hurts, propelled the Eagles to their second Super Bowl appearance in three years.

Strahan’s Playful Support for Barkley and the Eagles

As the interview progressed, Barkley brought out an Eagles flag, encouraging Strahan to join in on the pregame excitement. Initially resistant, the Giants legend joked, “You can’t make me do it. I might burn!” However, after some persuasion, he relented, raising the flag and making a statement that sent shockwaves through the Giants’ fanbase.

“For all you Giants fans out there, I’ve been around a lot of guys who left the Giants and gone to other places that I did not like, and I never liked them,” Strahan said. “But [Barkley] is such a special man. C’mon, we’re going to ‘Fly, Eagles, Fly’ with Saquon Barkley because I respect the brother so much. And we don’t have a flag in New York.”

After the lighthearted display, Strahan took the joke even further, quipping, “Anyone who needs real estate in New York, I have to sell my house.”

Mixed Reactions from Giants Fans

Strahan’s enthusiastic gesture did not sit well with all Giants supporters. Many took to social media to express their disappointment. One fan commented, “Michael Strahan, you went too far.” Another frustrated fan wrote, “Even franchise legends are clowning the Giants. They better dig deep and find some pride ASAP.”

The mixed reactions highlighted the ongoing tension between the Giants and the Eagles, one of the NFL’s fiercest rivalries. While some fans viewed Strahan’s actions as playful and in good spirits, others saw it as a betrayal of his loyalty to the team that defined his career.

Eagles Dominate Super Bowl LIX

Strahan’s well wishes may have brought the Eagles good fortune, as they went on to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in a dominant performance to claim their second Lombardi Trophy. The game was largely one-sided, with the Eagles establishing an insurmountable 34-0 lead before the Chiefs could respond.

Although Barkley had a relatively quiet game, recording just 57 rushing yards with an average of 2.3 yards per carry, the team effort was enough to secure a resounding victory. Hurts and the Eagles’ offensive unit delivered a commanding performance, ensuring a triumphant night for Philadelphia.

Strahan’s Legacy Remains Untarnished

While Strahan’s moment of levity may have upset some Giants fans, it’s unlikely to tarnish his legacy with the team. As a Hall of Famer and a key figure in the Giants’ storied history, his contributions to the franchise are undeniable. His support for Barkley reflected his appreciation for the player’s talent and character rather than any shift in allegiance.

Ultimately, the lighthearted exchange between Strahan and Barkley showcased the camaraderie and mutual respect that exists among NFL players, even when they find themselves on opposite sides of a storied rivalry. As the dust settles, Giants fans may eventually forgive Strahan’s moment of fun, recognizing it as a testament to the bonds that extend beyond team colors.
