Stephen A. Smith sure knows how to make an entrance. Smith was part of ESPN’s crew for Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics.
And the Dallas Mavericks and a clip of him entering the arena before the game went viral on X.
NBA fans hilariously reacted to Smith’s entrance.
One said Smith believed he was the main character.
A fan felt Smith practiced that walk.
One roasted Smith over his bad predictions.
A fan joked that Smith thought he was playing in the game.
One felt Smith was acting like the Finals were about him.
Well, whether Smith believed he was the biggest attraction or not, this is far from the first time we have seen him act in this manner. The last time we saw it was just a couple of weeks ago when he was walking into the arena for Game 7 between the New York Knicks and the Indiana Pacers.
Unfortunately for Smith, that game ended horribly for him, as the Pacers blew out the Knicks 130-109. Going back a bit further, he did something similar during the 2022 Western Conference Finals between the Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors.
Smith certainly isn’t the biggest star when he’s at these games, but he is the top dog at ESPN, for what that’s worth. We can probably expect some more of these extravagant entrances from him for the rest of these Finals.
One of the fans brought up Smith making wrong predictions, so who did he pick to win this series? Well, on First Take, the 56-year-old went with the Mavericks.
“I got the Mavs in six in Dallas,” Smith said. “I can’t say anybody going to a Game 7 in Boston in that environment and winning with an NBA championship on the line.”
With the Celtics registering a crushing 107-89 win in Game 1, Smith might have just gotten another prediction wrong. There is still a long way to go, though, and proclaiming that it’s already all over would be rather foolish on my part. All those who picked the Celtics like I did, have to feel good at this point, though.
