Netflix executives have reaffirmed their commitment to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle,
despite their recent struggles with viewership and reviews, particularly surrounding Prince Harry’s documentary, *POLO*.
The five-part series, centered around Harry’s love for polo, has faced criticism, with many labeling it “boring” and “underwhelming.”
This has led to growing speculation about whether Netflix would reconsider their lucrative deal with the couple.
However, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria, has publicly voiced her continued excitement for future projects with the Sussexes, highlighting the company’s faith in them.
Prince Harry’s *POLO* documentary was met with disappointing ratings and a lack of promotion, which led many to question the health of the Sussexes’ $80 million streaming agreement with the platform.
Despite these concerns, Bajaria stressed that Netflix remains committed to both Harry and Meghan. “We are excited about the future with them,” Bajaria said in an interview with *The Mail*. “We have Meghan’s new show coming out, which is great.” The show, titled *With Love, Meghan*, is a lifestyle cooking series that Bajaria is particularly enthusiastic about. She shared her own excitement about the show, revealing how watching it made her want to try the recipes featured. “There are really easy, great takeaways on life. I was like, ‘Oh my God, I want to really do that pasta.’”
This statement marks the first time a senior Netflix executive has openly confirmed that the Sussexes are still moving forward with new projects, despite their recent missteps. However, while Netflix is supportive, it’s worth noting that Meghan’s cooking series has yet to receive significant attention in promotional materials. In fact, when Netflix presented its 2025 release lineup, *With Love, Meghan* was notably absent from the glossy PR brochure.
Meghan’s cooking series is not the only project currently in development. Bajaria also teased a screen adaptation of the bestselling romance novel *Meet Me at the Lake* by Carley Fortune, which Meghan is working on. While the project is still in development and has not yet been greenlit, Bajaria expressed optimism about its future, stating, “It is a great book, and we are happy to do it.” Bajaria’s comments reflect Netflix’s ongoing investment in the couple, with a clear focus on their potential to create future successes.
Despite the support from Netflix, tensions have arisen within the comedy world, particularly with the sharp humor of comedian John Mulaney. During Netflix’s 2025 preview event in Los Angeles, Mulaney took aim at the Sussexes, joking about how they lacked a “specific plan” when they signed their Netflix deal. His quip, “Not since Harry and Meghan has Netflix given more money to someone without a specific plan,” was met with laughter from the audience. The comment, though playful, reflects the uncertainty and mixed perceptions surrounding the couple’s Netflix partnership.
There is also a sense of growing discomfort in media circles about the Sussexes’ lack of high-profile promotion for their projects. Their absence from major marketing efforts for *POLO*, for instance, raised suspicions that there might be issues behind the scenes. Some industry insiders have even taken jabs at the couple, with one Spotify executive labeling them as “grifters” following the collapse of their podcast deal with the platform. Additionally, in Bajaria’s own presentation, no mention was made of any upcoming Sussex projects, which some saw as a subtle sign of the company’s cooling enthusiasm.
Nevertheless, Netflix continues to stand by Harry and Meghan, with Bajaria making it clear that the streaming giant remains “excited” about the couple’s future endeavors. The couple’s journey with Netflix has had its challenges, but it seems that Netflix is not ready to part ways just yet. Bajaria’s confidence in *With Love, Meghan* and the upcoming film adaptation suggests that, despite setbacks, the Sussexes still have a place at the table in Netflix’s ongoing content strategy.
It’s clear that while the Sussexes’ journey with Netflix has not been without its bumps, the streaming service is fully invested in their future. Whether their upcoming projects will live up to expectations remains to be seen, but for now, Netflix seems committed to supporting Harry and Meghan through thick and thin.
