Niall Horan shares insights on the “golf date” with Reba McEntire that may not happen following their intense backstage feud on The Voice: “She prevented me from moving forward”

They might be proud on-stage competitors on The Voice, but behind the scenes, Season 24 Coaches Reba McEntire and Niall Horan appear to be teeing off on the cutest of friendships.

Just four episodes into a brand-new season (featuring Coaches McEntire, Horan, Gwen Stefani, and John Legend), McEntire and Horan are already bonding over a mutual love of golf that not even a cross-continental ocean can come between.

Here’s what happens in the Season 24, Episode 4: While Legend and Stefani stand around idly reminiscing about that one time they bonded over a ho-hum lunch break

Horan and McEntire are whipping around the Voice studio lot in golf carts, forming a putt-putt alliance that’ll likely only sharpen their competitive instincts when it’s time to hone in on this season’s aspiring Artists.

Yep, even a regular ol’ studio complex can serve as an impromptu golf obstacle course… so long, that is, as you’re willing to make the most of your environment.

McEntire and Horan aren’t exactly going for Pebble Beach honors, after all, which kind of gives their whole golf-inspired buddy project that little extra bit of lighthearted bounce.

“I play really good after one beer. I’m Tiger Woods-level at two beers!” McEntire teased when the subject came up last season on The Voice.

“What happens after three?” a prodding Horan suggested. But alas, for Reba, two’s her limit: After that, “I better quit!” she said cheekily.

“When Reba was here last season as a Mega-Mentor, we became good friends pretty quick,” McEntire confided, “and we realized we had one thing in common — and that was golf!”

It’s all just par-for-the-course behavior, apparently, since McEntire and Horan’s antics haven’t exactly flown under their fellow Coaches’ radar. “Gwen, have you noticed? It seems like Reba and Niall are, like, best friends now,” asks an incredulous Legend, who may or may not be showing just a little bit of jealousy.

“I know,” answers Stefani, trying to play it cool. “It’s like, totally weird!”

Stay tuned for more fun frenemy insights as the Coaches start cultivating this season’s amazing lineup of Artists! Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.
