Pete Davidson says he’s the ‘girl’ in a relationship and likes ‘assertiveness’

Pete Davidson, known for his candidness and humor,

shared some personal insights about his approach to relationships during his recent guest appearance on *The Drew Barrymore Show*.

The conversation centered around the comedian’s dating preferences, and Davidson revealed that he typically takes on the “feminine” role when it comes to his romantic life.

His admission sparked an interesting discussion about assertiveness and traditional gender roles in relationships.

Davidson, 31, who rose to fame as a *Saturday Night Live* cast member

and starred in the film *The King of Staten Island*, was asked by host Drew Barrymore whether women should be the ones to make the first move when pursuing a man.

In his response, Davidson admitted, “I’m the girl, I think, whenever I’m in a relationship.” He elaborated by mentioning that some men might be shy and enjoy when a woman takes the initiative.

Barrymore was visibly surprised by Davidson’s revelation and probed further, asking if he liked assertiveness from women. Davidson responded with a clear “yes,” explaining that his upbringing in a household full of women shaped the way he expresses himself in relationships. “I grew up all ladies in the house, so I act pretty feminine,” he said, offering a deeper understanding of how his family dynamic influenced his personality.

Davidson’s openness about his dating style is just one part of the narrative that surrounds his personal life. Known for his high-profile relationships, Davidson has been romantically linked to several famous women over the years, including Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, Kate Beckinsale, and Kaia Gerber. Despite his public love life, Davidson has often expressed a desire to be recognized for his work rather than his romantic entanglements.

In an interview with *W Magazine* in December 2024, Davidson shared that he doesn’t want to be known simply for dating celebrities. “I just want to be known for doing good work,” he said. “I want to be out there only when it’s [for] a movie, stand-up, charity, or business ventures. That’s when I want to be seen. I don’t want to be this f—ing loser who just dates people.” This sentiment highlights Davidson’s desire to be taken seriously as a professional, separate from the attention his relationships garner.

Davidson’s dating history has attracted a lot of media attention, especially after his whirlwind romance with pop star Ariana Grande. The two became engaged just a few weeks after starting their relationship in 2018, but they called off the engagement after only a few months. The rapid nature of their romance, followed by its equally swift end, cemented Davidson’s place in the media spotlight. Since then, Davidson has dated a range of notable women, including actresses like Kate Beckinsale and Margaret Qualley, and model Kaia Gerber.

Despite the public interest in his relationships, Davidson has repeatedly downplayed the fascination with his dating life. In March 2023, during a conversation on the *Real Ones* podcast with Jon Bernthal, Davidson expressed his frustration with the media’s focus on his love life. “I’m in my 20s and I’ve dated people,” he said, commenting on the way his romantic history was perceived as a spectacle. “For some reason, that’s very crazy and interesting to people. I don’t think it’s interesting.”

Interestingly, Davidson also pointed out that he doesn’t even have social media accounts where he “flexes” his relationships or updates fans on his personal life. This indicates that he prefers a certain level of privacy, despite the constant scrutiny of his relationships.

As for his dating preferences, Davidson’s acknowledgment that he gravitates toward the “feminine” role might not fit traditional expectations, but it offers a refreshing perspective on how personal upbringing and individuality can shape relationship dynamics. His ability to embrace vulnerability and share this side of himself with the public highlights his desire to be more than just a tabloid figure.

Davidson’s approach to relationships reflects a broader cultural conversation about how gender roles and expectations are evolving, especially in the context of modern dating. His candidness about his preferences and his ability to openly discuss such personal topics without shame allows fans to see him as more than just a famous comedian—he’s a person navigating the complexities of love, identity, and career in the public eye.
