The 59th annual Academy of Country Music Awards took place late last week at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. 

The event was hosted by the Queen of Country, Reba McEntire, who took the opportunity to pay tribute to the great Dickey Betts.

Who passed away on April 18, 2024. For the homage, McEntire and Post Malone delivered an impromptu and a cappella “Ramblin’ Man.” 

The team-up came after Malone’s solo performances of originals “I Had Some Help” and “Never Love You Again.” 

After concluding the plays, McEntire appeared on stage, saluting Malone for his talents before asking, “I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind singing a song with me?” 

He responded, “There is nothin’ more in this world I would love,” prior to the contextualization of current events; 

“We recently lost Dickey Betts from The Allman Brothers Band and, if you would, let’s sing a little bit of ‘Ramblin’ Man,’ OK?” McEntire entered verse one with a single strum of the G chord via Post’s acoustic guitar: “Well, my father was a gambler down in Georgia/ And he wound up on the wrong end of a gun,” sans additional instrumentation. Malone carried the a cappella continuation: “And I was born in the backseat of a Greyhound bus/ Rollin’ down Highway 41.”
