Prince Harry made a short visit to the UK earlier this month to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games
but reportedly turned down an invite by King Charles to stay at a royal residence while in the country.
The Duke of Sussex opted to stay at a hotel in London and his choice left the Palace “blindsided”, royal biographer and editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, Ingrid Seward told The Mirror.
According to a report in The Telegraph, Harry rejected his father’s invitation due to security concerns.
Royal broadcaster Helena Chard said Harry’s choice seems to suggest there are “deeper-rooted problems” as she described the Duke’s behaviour as “beyond strange”.
According to the commentator, staying at a royal residence could have increased Harry’s chances of seeing his father, which we now know did not happen during his short visit.
Ms Chard told Fox News Digital : “He could have stayed at St. James’ Palace, a stone’s throw away from Clarence House, where the King is usually based. Harry turned down staying in a palace, where he would have received armed security protection from the SO14 Royalty Protection Group. He chose to stay at a hotel in Mayfair without this protection.
“Not only would he have received armed security protection, there is a far higher chance that he would have seen his father. It worries me that Prince Harry has deeper-rooted problems, most likely related to his mother, as I feel his behaviour is beyond strange. I am, however, aware that his behavior keeps the victim narrative alive, a narrative which maybe he feels serves a purpose at this time.”
Meanwhile, Ms Seward told us: “When Prince Harry turned down his father’s offer to stay at a royal residence during his three-day trip to London in May, it was a surprise to the royal household. The King was aware Harry had no UK base. He could not fail to be aware Harry was unduly anxious about security.
“But he was not aware that Harry would issue a statement saying his father was too busy to meet him. It was hurtful and even if true if they had been under the same roof a meeting might have been arranged.
“The King is wary of his troublesome son. Whatever he does to try and help him is turned into a snub. Nothing is ever Harry’s fault. It is either the fault of the British Government or the lack of security afforded him by the Metropolitan Police. They have offered him a ‘bespoke’ arrangement, assessing each visit individually.
“Not good enough for Harry. He had his own arrangement to stay at a luxury private hotel where the entrance and exit are hidden from peering eyes and cameras and even the hotel staff don’t know what VIP guests are staying.”
She added: “Harry’s unpredictable behaviour is hurtful to his father. Even if he were too busy to see Harry – and that is quite possible – to issue an announcement to this effect is unnecessary and benefits no one. This is especially the case when his father is still undergoing cancer treatment and could well be very tired and emotionally fragile.”
It comes as sources claimed Harry and Meghan could be invited to Ghana after their recent trip to Nigeria. The West African country’s officials and leading icons are keen for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to visit after their “success” in their neighbouring country Nigeria, sources exclusively tell The Mirror.
Insiders say the country’s leading bigwigs and artistic influencers are keen for the Sussexes to fly to Accra, the capital of Ghana that was so loved by Harry’s late Grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, and they will pull out all the stops to make them feel at home. A source said: “There is already a lot of talk and excitement in Ghana, everyone is so keen for Harry and Meghan to come and experience the great culture and warmth.
