Reba McEntire reveals what she would do for sitcom Happy’s Place theme song: ‘It’ll be totally distinct, I assure’ (video)

Get ready for another classic TV theme song from Reba McEntire.

As the 69-year-old country star’s upcoming comedy Happy’s Place was picked up to series at NBC on May 7.

Fans of her beloved Reba show will be excited to know she’ll be performing the new sitcom’s theme song.

“Oh, definitely. I’ll be singing the theme song. We’ve started working on it, and we’ll have it soon finished,”

McEntire tells PEOPLE in an interview ahead of the Happy’s Place pickup announcement. “If they say it’s a go, I’ll finish it up and have it ready for when we go to series.”

The Grammy winner previously performed the Reba theme song, a reworked version of her 2001 single “I’m a Survivor,”

Which has since gone viral on social media multiple times and remains a staple in McEntire’s concerts to this day.

The “Fancy” singer says working on the new series, which reunites her with former Reba costar Melissa Peterman, has been “so much fun” thus far.

“Rex Linn, my boyfriend, is also part of the show. We’ve got a great ensemble with same producers, showrunner and writers as we had with the Reba show, and it’s a great script,” explains McEntire, before detailing the plot.

“My [character Bobbie’s] dad was Happy, that was his name, and we owned a tavern called Happy’s Place,” she says. “Well, Happy passed, and so he’s passed the tavern onto me, but there’s a little hiccup involved, so that’s the mystery right there. Everybody has to tune in and watch it, and I hope they love it.”

The “hiccup” in question? Bobbie discovers she has a new business partner in the half-sister (Belissa Escobedo) she never knew she had, NBCUniversal previously announced.

On Happy’s Place, Peterman will portray Gabby, a bartender who’s “a bit needy and dramatic” and would’ve loved to be Bobbie’s sister, according to the network.

The 52-year-old actress announced her involvement in the series via Instagram in March. “This is why I have been smiling ALL the time,” she wrote at the time.

“I am thrilled to share the news that I get another chance to work with my friends,” added Peterman. “Buckle up @reba We are going to have some fun!”

Before McEntire fully dives into work on Happy’s Place, she’s set to host and perform at the 2024 ACM Awards at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, streaming live via Prime Video at 8 p.m. on May 16.
