Luxury dressmaker Ajay Mirpui told Daily Mail that he and his team worked quickly before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘s wedding to tailor the dresses for the six young bridesmaids.
Ajay Mirpuri, the tailor whom Prince Harry named in his memoir, shared for the first time in an interview with the Daily Mail published on January 10.
Mirpuri clarified that although he did not witness any disagreements between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle before their May 2018 wedding,
he and his team worked quickly before the wedding to correct it all. 6 dresses for little bridesmaids, including Princess Charlotte.
“Something may happen behind the scenes, but everything is not revealed to me. The wedding came at a very stressful time, especially one at such a high level.
They faced the same problems as anyone planning a wedding, with last-minute problems. I understand why people would be upset if the dresses didn’t fit properly – it’s stressful,” Mirpuri told the Daily Mail .
Mirpuri said of the white short-sleeved dresses: “I sympathize with everyone because you wouldn’t want your kids to step out on the big stage in a dress that doesn’t fit. All six bridesmaids’ dresses had to be repaired, and we did it,” he said, adding that he was very proud that his work was able to serve the Royal Family.
In addition to Princess Charlotte, the other five young bridesmaids of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding also include Harry’s two goddaughters: Florence van Cutsem and Zalie Warren, Meghan’s two goddaughters: Rylan and Remi Lit, then and Ivy Mulroney, daughter of Jessica Mulroney, Meghan Markle’s friend.
Mirpuri, who runs the Mirpuri Bespoke atelier in London and Switzerland, told reporters that he and his team agreed “immediately that all six bridesmaid dresses had to be altered, because they didn’t fit.”
“We had to work hard for four days. Four people had to work until 4am three nights in a row to get them to fit. We left Windsor Castle at 10pm the night before the wedding. Did anyone complain about the bridesmaids’ outfits and their appearance? The answer was no,” Mirpuri recalled.
In his memoir Spare , Prince Harry wrote that his sister-in-law Kate texted Meghan four days before the wedding: “Charlotte’s dress is too big, too long, too baggy. She cried while trying on dresses for her daughter at home.”
According to the book, Meghan instructed her to go see the “on duty” tailor at Kensington Palace at 8 a.m. that morning, but Kate insisted that “all the bridesmaid dresses needed to be redone.”
Meghan told Kate that she was stressed about her father, Thomas Markle, and the wedding. Kate replied she understood, but the conversation continued “back and forth.”
“I don’t know what to say anymore. If the dress doesn’t fit, take Charlotte to Ajay. He’s been waiting all day,” Harry wrote that Meghan said. “Fine,” Kate replied.
“A short time later, I arrived home and found Meg lying on the floor. She was sobbing,” Harry wrote in Spare . “I was horrified to see her so upset but didn’t think it was a disaster.” Harry also wrote that the next day Kate sent flowers and a card to apologize.
