But in 2018, Lawrence made the surprising announcement that she would be taking a break from acting.

Lawrence landed a role in the cable comedy series The Big Engvall Show up until 2009.

Jennifer Lawrence career timeline

Lawrence’s breakout role was in the chilling 2010 drama, Winter’s Bone.

Her breathtaking performance in the film earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

In 2011, Lawrence took on her first franchise role as Mystique in The X-Men: First Class.

The 32-year-old has reprised her role in three more X-Men instalments, including the 2019 film Dark Phoenix.

Lawrence has previously shared that to get into character, it would take over eight hours for the make-up team to paint her body.

In 2012, Lawrence took on arguably her most iconic role to date as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games.

The first installment of the mega-successful franchise debuted that year and saw Lawrence become a household name.

She would continue to play the daring heroine for three more films, wrapping up the franchise in 2015 with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.

Since then, Lawrence has appeared in an array of films, crossing genres from drama to horror to comedy.

The actress has starred in titles including Silver Linings Playbook (which she won and Oscar Award for), American Hustle, Joy and Red Sparrow.

In 2021, Lawrence appeared alongside an all-star cast including Leonardo DiCaprio and Meryl Streep in the Netflix film, Don’t Look Up.

Jennifer Lawrence net worth

In 2023, Jennifer Lawrence reportedly has a net worth of an estimated $175 million.

The Mother! actress is best known for memorably tripping up the stairs on her way to accept an Oscar Award.

Lawrence won the highly coveted Best Actress award at the 85th Oscars in 2013 for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook when she tripped on her dress skirt.

The actress has had many other nominations and award wins spanning across the past decade including MTV

She has won three Golden Globe Awards with two wins in the Best Actress in a Motion Picture – musical or comedy for Silver Linings Playbook and Joy and Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture win for American Hustle.

In 2015, her role as Katniss Everdeen became the Guinness World Record holder for the highest-grossing action heroine.

J-Law’s dating history includes some of Hollywood’s heartthrobs and a couple of co-stars.

The actress dated her X-Men co-star Nicholas Holt for four years after the pair met on the set of X-Men: First Class and quickly hit it off.

While they briefly split in 2013, the couple went their separate ways for good in 2014 around the time Lawrence was wrapping up the final Hunger Games movie.

During a 2018 appearance on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, Lawrence admitted, “All my boyfriends have been wonderful, adding that “Nick was a great boyfriend.”

J-Law and Hoult even seem to be on good terms these days with the former attending her ex-boyfriend’s premiere for The Favourite alongside her now husband Cooke Maroney.

Shortly after her relationship with Hoult came to an end, J-Law had a brief fling with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

The unlikely pair dated for four months in 2014 before briefly getting back together in 2015.

The Hunger Games actress was rumoured to have dated her co-star Liam Hemsworth while filming the series, despite the Aussie hunk briefly being married to Miley Cyrus.

While a relationship was never confirmed, Lawrence did reveal during a 2015 appearance on Watch What Happens Live that the co-stars had shared a sneaky pash or two off-screen.

“Liam and I grew up together,” Lawrence said on the talk show “Liam’s real hot. What would you have done?”

The Jennifer and Liam relationship discourse has had a recent resurgence after fans were convinced Hemsworth’s ex-wife Miley Cyrus dissed J-Law in her music video for her hit track Flowers.

Lawrence set the record straight about the affair rumours on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen this month.

The actress told Cohen the rumours were simply “Not true”.

“I mean, we all know me and Liam, like, kissed one time,” Lawrence said, assuring it was “years after” her co-star had called it quits with Cyrus.

J-Law was also rumoured to have had an affair with her Passengers co-star Chris Pratt after the two seemed very close throughout the film’s press tour.

However, Lawrence debunked the allegations during a 2018 interview with KIIS FM.

“I never had an affair with Chris Pratt on Passengers,” she said.

“That’s a good one. I mean they got a divorce like two years later and everybody was like, ‘Jennifer Lawrence!’ And I was like, ‘What the…what I’m in Montreal two years later.'”

Lawrence’s last confirmed relationship was with her Mother! director, Darren Aronofsky.

The couple had a 22-year-age gap and dated for a year from 2016 to 2017 after filming on the psychological horror film wrapped.

Who is Jennifer Lawrence married to?

Jennifer Lawrence married art dealer Cooke Maroney, 38, in 2019.

The couple share their son, Cy, who was born in 2022.

Lawrence told Vogue that Cy was named ”after the postwar American painter Cy Twombly, one of Maroney’s favorite artists.”

Before they tied the knot, Lawrence spoke to Catt Sadler in June 2019 n the NAKED With Catt Sandler podcast

“I definitely wasn’t at a place where I was like, ‘I’m ready to get married,'” the actress admitted to Sadler.

“I just met Cooke and I wanted to marry him. We wanted to marry each other. We wanted to commit fully,” she said.

“He’s my best friend so I want to legally bind him to me forever. And fortunately the paperwork exists for such a thing. It’s the greatest. You find your favorite person in the planet and you’re like you can’t leave. So I wanted to take that offer.”

In February 2018, Jennifer Lawrence announced she was taking a year off from acting.

“I’m going to be working with this organisation as a part of Represent. Us … trying to get young people engaged politically on a local level,” Lawrence told Entertainment Tonight at the time.

While promoting her 2021 film Don’t Look Up, Jennifer Lawrence spoke to Vanity Fair about her real motive behind taking a break from acting.

“I was not pumping out the quality [of work] that I should have,” she admitted to the publication.

“I just think everybody had gotten sick of me. I’d gotten sick of me. It had just gotten to a point where I couldn’t do anything right. If I walked a red carpet, it was, ‘Why didn’t she run?'”

“I think that I was people-pleasing for the majority of my life,” Lawrence added.

“Working made me feel like nobody could be mad at me: ‘Okay, I said yes, we’re doing it. Nobody’s mad.’ And then I felt like I reached a point where people were not pleased just by my existence. So that kind of shook me out of thinking that work or your career can bring any kind of peace to your soul.”

The actress told Vanity Fair that she felt she “didn’t have a life” and came to the conclusion that “I should go get one”, hence the step away from the big screen.

Lawrence’s longtime friend and producing partner, Justine Polsky, also shared that at the time, stardom had started to “kill her creative spirit”,.

“So, she vanished, which was probably the most responsible way to protect her gifts. And sanity,” Polsky said.

Jennifer Lawrence new movie

After years being known for her humour, Lawrence finally put her acting chops to use in her recent film, No Hard Feelings.

The film is directed by Gene Stupnitsky, with the actress being a producer on the movie as well as playing the female lead, Maddie Barker.

She plays an Uber driver who is hired to date a socially awkward 19-year-old, played by Andrew Feldman, 21, before he heads to college.

Lawrence spoke to Good Morning America about what drew her to the film.

“I had just had a baby, so I definitely wasn’t planning on working,” she admitted.

“And I just, I read the script, and it was just too funny. It was the funniest thing I had ever read.”

Lawrence was all over social media while on the press tour for the No Hard Feelings.

She also promoted her film on Hot Ones with host Sean Evans where afterwards she confessed on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen that she “threw up violently” from eating the super hot chicken wings.

She also had an hilarious appearance on the popular YouTube series Chicken Shop Date, hosted by comedian Amelia Dimoldenberg, which has gathered over 3.5 million views in it’s first week..

First Oscars in six years

She recently met up with Dimoldenberg again on the Oscars 2024 red carpet, which was her first in six years.

“I realised yesterday when I came for the rehearsal… I haven’t been here since I was 25,” she shared, before revealing she was only slightly exaggerating the gap.

Lawrence took to the stage in 2018 alongside Jodie Foster to present the Best Actress award to Frances McDormand for her role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

The four-time Oscar nominee also revealed that she fell again at the Oscars, just one year after her infamous fall up the stairs as she went to accept her award for Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook.

As she chatted to Dimoldenberg she said, “You know I fell the next year too. So then it just looked like I 100 per cent faked (it),” adding that she fell on an orange traffic cone.

The actress was not nominated for anything this year, but stood on stage as she watched her best friend Emma Stone accept the award for Best Actress.

Lawrence was able to give Stone the award herself after Michelle Yeoh, last year’s Best Actress, decided to include her in the process. Traditionally the past year’s award winner is to award the incoming one, but after the move confused viewers Yeoh took to Instagram to explain.

“Congratulations Emma!! I confused you, but I wanted to share that glorious moment of handing over Oscar to you together with your best friend Jennifer!!” Yeoh explained. “She reminded me of my Bae Jamie Lee Curtis always there for each other!!”
