Richard Madeley has finally spoken out about the rumours of a feud with his Good Morning Britain co-host Susanna Reid, putting to rest speculations of any tension between the two. 

The veteran broadcaster, who has been a regular presence on the ITV morning show since 2021, described working with Susanna as a “privilege” 

and opened up about his passion for the job, despite the constant speculation about his future on the show.

For years, fans have speculated that there may be underlying tension between Richard and Susanna, pointing to subtle clues they have noticed on air, 

such as Susanna’s facial expressions and Richard’s occasional body language. 

One such moment occurred last October, when viewers noticed Richard recoiling slightly when Susanna touched his shoulder. 

However, Richard has now firmly denied these rumours, confirming that there is no rift between them.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Richard expressed his admiration for Susanna, calling it a “treat” to work alongside her. He shared insights into their working relationship, revealing that the two are highly in sync both professionally and journalistically. “I think I’m really lucky to have been paired with Susanna,” Richard said. “We have a meeting every morning at 5 o’clock in her dressing room, just the three of us with the producer, where we go through the running order and finalize the show. We’re very much on the same page about how to deliver the stories. It’s just fantastic.”

Richard went on to explain that their shared approach to storytelling and the way they handle the show’s content makes their partnership seamless. “We think in the same way about how to sell a story, what the main point is, and how to deliver it on air,” he added. “It would be tiresome if we didn’t have the same outlook, but with Susanna, it’s just easy and natural.”

Despite his extensive career in broadcasting, Richard, now 68, shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, he revealed that he enjoys the early mornings and the chance to be part of a dynamic news programme. “I wouldn’t get up at 4 in the morning two weeks out of four if I didn’t enjoy it,” he explained. “I don’t need to do it, but I do because I genuinely get a kick out of working on Good Morning Britain. It gives me a chance to return to my roots as a reporter, which is something I really love.”

Richard made it clear that while he could easily retire, he continues to work because he finds fulfillment in the job. “My career arc is behind me, I’ve had a happy career, and I could just potter around if I wanted to. But I do GMB for two reasons,” he said. “First, because I started in news, and this show gives me the opportunity to get back into that. Second, because I love the team. It’s a privilege working here.”

His commitment to the show is evident in the way he speaks about the Good Morning Britain team. “I’ve worked on shows where I wasn’t happy, but GMB is a great team. It’s exciting, professional, and focused. I get a real kick out of working here,” Richard shared.

Although there have been public speculations about his retirement, Richard reassured viewers that he isn’t planning on leaving anytime soon. His passion for news and reporting is still strong, and he’s grateful for the opportunity to work with an “exciting” and “professional” team.

As for the rumours about his relationship with Susanna, Richard couldn’t have been clearer in his response. Despite fans’ observations and social media chatter, he reiterated that there is no tension between them. “It’s just a treat working with her,” he said. “She’s fantastic, and we work together really well.”

With Richard’s longevity in the industry and his continued enjoyment of Good Morning Britain, fans can rest assured that the co-hosts’ partnership is stronger than ever. The pair’s chemistry continues to be one of the highlights of the show, and Richard’s openness about his future with the program further solidifies his place in ITV’s morning lineup.
