Rookie Dyaisha Fair was WAIVED from the Las Vegas Aces simply because she WASN’T as impressive as rumored

The announcement waived rookie from the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday that they had released rookie guard Dyaisha Fair. Fair, who ranks third in scoring in NCAA Division I women’s basketball history with 3,403 points, was picked 16th overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft just last month.

Fair managed to secure a spot on the Aces’ roster after showing promise during training camp. However, her playing time was severely limited in the initial two weeks of the season. Her professional debut came on Saturday during the team’s dominant victory against the Indiana Fever, where she failed to score but did manage to provide two assists.

Standing at 5-foot-5, Fair is considered undersized, particularly for a point guard, which made her path to success in the WNBA challenging from the start. Therefore, the Aces’ decision to part ways with her wasn’t entirely unexpected, although the timing, given her initial impression at the camp, seems peculiar.

Ultimately, Fair’s fate may have been influenced by factors beyond her control.

The Aces are currently grappling with a significant depth problem, exacerbated by Candace Parker’s retirement and Chelsea Gray’s injury. In the first four games of the season, A’ja Wilson, Jackie Young, and Kelsey Plum have contributed to more than 75% of the team’s total points, leaving the remaining eight players with just 90 points combined.

With a pressing need to bolster their bench strength, especially until Gray returns, the Aces are prioritizing immediate contributors over potential. As such, they are actively seeking a free agent who can reliably fill minutes, which they deem crucial for their bid for a third consecutive championship.

While the specific addition remains uncertain, several experienced guards are available in the free-agent market, including Odyssey Sims, Sydney Wiese, and Shey Peddy.

Despite these challenges, the defending champions, the Aces, have started the season with a commendable 3-1 record, currently sharing the second-place position.
