Ryan Reynolds reveals reason for skipping Critics Choice Awards ceremony amid Justin Baldoni legal drama

Ryan Reynolds was noticeably absent from the Critics Choice Awards on Friday night,

despite his film *Deadpool & Wolverine* sharing the prestigious Best Comedy Film award with Kieran Culkin’s *A Real Pain*.

The actor and producer, known for his sharp humor and engaging presence, didn’t attend the ceremony, leaving fans wondering about his whereabouts.

The absence comes as Reynolds and his wife, actress Blake Lively, continue to deal with a legal battle involving Lively’s *It Ends With Us* co-star, Justin Baldoni.

Although Reynolds, 48, was not at the awards event, he was quick to acknowledge the win on social media.

Taking to Instagram after the ceremony, he expressed gratitude for the honor and celebrated the film’s success.

“Zing! Thanks @criticschoice — whole team @deadpoolmovie is thrilled,” Reynolds wrote, sharing his appreciation for the recognition. He went on to congratulate *A Real Pain* for its victory, acknowledging that the tie was a significant achievement. Reynolds also shared a series of pictures showing the fun he had during the night, offering fans a glimpse into his activities outside of the awards show.

The actor, who co-wrote, produced, and starred in *Deadpool & Wolverine* alongside his best friend Hugh Jackman, has been keeping a low profile recently. The ongoing legal drama involving his wife Blake Lively and Baldoni has contributed to the couple’s choice to stay out of the limelight. Lively and Baldoni’s legal feud took a new turn in December 2024 when Lively filed a lawsuit against the actor, accusing him of sexual harassment and a retaliatory smear campaign. In a separate development, Baldoni’s attorneys filed a $400 million lawsuit against Lively, claiming she took measures to gain control over the 2024 film *It Ends With Us*.

Despite these challenges, Reynolds managed to balance his professional obligations with personal matters. The *Spirited* actor was, in fact, attending a significant business summit at the same time as the Critics Choice Awards. He was at the JP Morgan summit, where he joined Disney CEO Bob Iger and renowned talent agent Bryan Lourd for discussions. Reynolds shared photos from the event, including one of him on stage with Iger and Lourd. “Had an amazing time on stage at @jpmorgan summit with Bob Iger and Bryan Lourd. Those boys are SHARP. Surprised to discover my mom there. She wanted to see Iger,” Reynolds joked in his Instagram caption, adding a personal touch to his post.

While the actor’s absence from the Critics Choice Awards may have raised questions, it was clear that his commitment to the JP Morgan summit was equally important. The evening was filled with high-profile conversations, and Reynolds seemed to enjoy a unique opportunity to connect with industry leaders. The summit also offered a chance for his mother to meet Bob Iger, a moment Reynolds shared with his followers.

Meanwhile, the legal battles surrounding Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni continue to unfold, with both sides preparing for an intense trial. The former *Gossip Girl* co-stars are set to appear in court on March 9, 2026, to settle their disputes. The ongoing litigation includes allegations of sexual harassment by Baldoni, which Lively claims involved uncomfortable and invasive behavior. Baldoni, on the other hand, has filed a significant lawsuit in response, accusing Lively of taking control of *It Ends With Us*.

As Reynolds and Lively navigate the challenges in their personal lives, their professional success continues to thrive. *Deadpool & Wolverine*’s recognition at the Critics Choice Awards reflects Reynolds’ continued success as a producer and actor, while his involvement in high-profile business events like the JP Morgan summit signals his influence within the entertainment industry.

Despite the turbulence surrounding them, Reynolds and Lively seem focused on their careers and families. Fans eagerly await the resolution of the ongoing legal matters and look forward to more milestones in the couple’s professional and personal journeys.
