Sam Thompson reveals how I’m A Celeb co-star Marvin Humes is supporting him after his split from Zara McDermott

Sam Thompson has revealed how his I’m A Celebrity co-star Marvin Humes has been a source of support for him following his split from long-term girlfriend Zara McDermott.

The pair, who had been together for five years, ended their relationship in December, with Zara, 28, moving out of their shared Chelsea home.

The Made In Chelsea star, 32, shared details about how Marvin checked in on him during a difficult time,

emphasizing the kindness and support he has received from his fellow reality TV star. Speaking on his Staying Relevant podcast on Valentine’s Day,

Sam described a heartwarming “man date” with Marvin that left a lasting impact on him.

Marvin Humes Steps Up for Sam Thompson

During the podcast, Sam told his best friend and co-host, Pete Wicks, how Marvin had taken the time to ensure he was coping with the emotional toll of the breakup.

“He wanted to check in with me and make sure I was okay because he knew everything had been a bit s** recently,”* Sam explained.

He expressed his gratitude for Marvin’s kindness, noting that the JLS singer took time out of his schedule—away from his wife, Rochelle Humes, and their children—to offer his support.

“He took the time on a Monday evening to take time away from his wife and kids to spend time with me—I almost shed a tear,” Sam admitted.

Pete praised Marvin’s gesture, highlighting the importance of such friendships during tough times.

Coping with the Breakup

Sam’s split from Zara came as a surprise to many fans, particularly as the couple had been through ups and downs before. Their relationship first made headlines in 2019 when Sam, known for his cheeky personality, slid into Zara’s Instagram DMs. Over the years, they faced public scrutiny, including a brief breakup in 2020 following Zara’s infidelity during her Love Island days. However, they reconciled and appeared stronger than ever—until their final split late last year.

Speaking on the podcast, Sam reflected on the difficulty of moving forward, particularly as Valentine’s Day served as a painful reminder of his new single status.

Pete, who has been by Sam’s side throughout, lightened the mood by joking about his friend’s emotional state.

“It’s been difficult for Sam, and it was his week with the kids,” Pete said, before clarifying that he was referring to Sam’s cats, Albus and Cedric, whom he shared with Zara.

Sam laughed and confirmed, “I did have the cats round for a couple of weeks. I got given the cats.”

Hints About the Breakup

Although Sam has not explicitly detailed the reasons for the breakup, he has recently hinted that he may not be the one to blame. While appearing on Love Island’s Morning After podcast, he discussed the role his family plays in his relationships, noting that his sister, Louise Thompson, has always assumed he was at fault in past breakups.

“Most of the time when we break up, it is my fault in my sister’s eyes,” he shared. “She will look at me and go, ‘What have you done?’ every time. And I’ll be like, ‘It’s not even me!’”

His comments have led to speculation that there may be more to the story behind his and Zara’s split than has been publicly revealed.

Awkward TV Moments Following the Breakup

Despite their separation, Sam and Zara continued to appear on television together due to pre-recorded content. One particularly awkward instance was their participation in Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, where they were featured in the Midnight Gameshow skit. The episode, filmed before their breakup, aired weeks after their split, making for an uncomfortable viewing experience.

On the Staying Relevant podcast, Pete playfully teased Sam about his reaction to watching the episode, joking that his week had “mostly consisted of crying.”

“That’s why he’s wearing the glasses actually,” Pete quipped, implying that Sam had been hiding his emotions.

Sam laughed off the comments but didn’t deny that the situation was difficult to navigate.

Moving Forward

Despite the heartbreak, Sam seems to be finding strength in his support system, particularly through friends like Marvin Humes and Pete Wicks. His willingness to be open about his struggles has resonated with fans, many of whom appreciate his honesty and vulnerability.

As for Zara, she has remained relatively private about the breakup, instead focusing on her career, including her latest swimwear line.

While it remains to be seen what the future holds for both Sam and Zara, one thing is certain—Sam is leaning on his friendships to help him through, with Marvin Humes proving to be an unexpected but invaluable source of support during this challenging time.
