Scottie Scheffler, known for his calm celebration, took a different approach when he marked his victory at the Memorial Tournament.
Fans at Muirfield Village (Par72) were excited to see Scheffler throw a punch to affirm himself.
The moment of historic victory also relieved the problems that have been weighing on his mind for the past few weeks, especially the traffic trouble during the PGA Championship.
Scheffler’s performance was a familiar image of Tiger Woods. In his prime, gestures like the fist pump when celebrating a victory were considered patented by the “Super Tiger”.
Scheffler has reason to follow Woods, one of the greatest golfers of all time, who has 82 PGA Tour titles – 15 of them majors.
At Muirfield Village, the world No. 1 golfer finished 8-under after four days of competition. He had an important victory over Collin Morikawa, who once again missed out on the title with a total score of -7.
This is his 5th title in 2024, an almost absolute dominance. His previous titles are Arnold Palmer, The Players, The Masters, RBC Heritage.
Interestingly, all 5 events have a minimum prize fund of 20 million USD. The Players alone has a record prize on the PGA Tour: 25 million USD.
The Memorial title helps Scheffler become the first golfer to win 5 titles in a PGA Tour season, since Justin Thomas in 2016-17.
Not only that, with a par putt on the 18th hole on the final day, the golfer from Texas, USA, recreated the miracle of Woods in 2001.
Accordingly, Scheffler became the first person in more than 2 decades to win the Arnold Palmer, The Players, The Masters and Memorial events in the same year.
Jack Nicklaus personally congratulated Scottie on his victory at Muirfield Village, which he designed.
Scheffler is performing at a level that very few golfers in the history of the sport have achieved. Nicklaus and Woods are among the few.
It is an important step for Scheffler before entering the U.S. Open, the third Major of the year, which takes place this week at Pinehurst Resort (Par70).
