President-elect Donald Trump has officially nominated former Congressman Sean Duffy to serve as the Secretary of Transportation,

a role that oversees the country’s highways, railways, and waterways—critical components of the American economy.
Duffy, 53, previously represented Wisconsin’s 7th District for eight years before transitioning to a career in media.
Most recently, he has been hosting The Bottom Line on Fox Business.

His nomination signals Trump’s commitment to infrastructure improvement, with Duffy’s experience in both politics and public service playing a key role in the decision.

In a statement announcing the nomination, Trump praised Duffy’s ability to work across party lines, particularly in clearing legislative hurdles to facilitate large-scale infrastructure projects.

“Admired across the aisle, Sean worked with Democrats to clear extensive legislative hurdles to build the largest road and bridge project in Minnesota history,” Trump said. “The husband of a wonderful woman, Rachel Campos-Duffy, a star on Fox News, and the father of nine incredible children, Sean knows how important it is for families to be able to travel safely, and with peace of mind.”
Duffy’s political career took a turn in 2019 when he voluntarily stepped down from Congress. In an interview with Tucker Carlson, he explained his decision, citing the need to prioritize his growing family. At the time, his wife, Rachel, was expecting their ninth child, who required significant medical attention.
“Contrary to popular belief, congressional schedules are pretty rigorous,” Duffy said. “We work four days in Washington, and then we’re back in our districts, attending fairs, parades, festivals, and meetings with constituents. I needed to take some time to be with my wife and my kids, especially to care for this little one that needed more of my attention.”
Duffy and his wife, both devout Catholics, have often emphasized the importance of faith, marriage, and family. Rachel has previously highlighted how their shared religious beliefs strengthen their relationship.

“Our family is only as strong as our marriage,” she stated. “Marriage is tough enough; having the same faith removes a lot of potential disagreements and keeps us grounded.”
Duffy is set to replace Pete Buttigieg as Secretary of Transportation. Buttigieg’s tenure faced various controversies, including the 2023 Ohio train derailment and airline disruptions in 2022. Critics have also pointed to his extended paternity leave as a topic of debate.
Despite encouragement from allies, including Trump, Duffy previously declined to run for Wisconsin governor in 2022, opting to focus on his family instead.
A strong advocate for parental rights, Duffy has been vocal in his opposition to COVID-19 vaccine mandates and other policies he views as infringing on parents’ authority over their children’s upbringing.
“I know my kids best,” Duffy asserted. “I know what morals and values are right for my children. We shouldn’t have an overreaching government dictating those decisions for us.”

Duffy has also been a staunch pro-life advocate, frequently speaking about the blessings of a large family.
“Every baby we’ve had has been a gift from God,” he said. “We take every blessing that comes our way.”
When stepping down from Congress, Duffy acknowledged his deep gratitude for serving his constituents but emphasized his primary role as a father.
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to serve,” he said. “It has been an honor to represent Wisconsin’s 7th District. But it’s an even greater honor to be my children’s dad. There are 435 members of Congress, but only one dad in the Duffy household. Those congressmen can continue their work—I need to focus on my role at home.”
As Duffy steps into his new role, he faces significant challenges in improving the nation’s infrastructure. However, despite the demands of his position, he has made it clear that his top priority remains his family, including his nine children: Evita Pilar, Xavier Jack, Lucia-Belen, John-Paul, Paloma Pilar, MariaVictoria Margarita, Margarita Pilar, Patrick Miguel, and StellaMaris.
