Sheinelle Jones has been noticeably absent from the Today show for several weeks due to personal reasons, keeping a low profile as she focuses on a family health matter. 

However, despite stepping away from the morning program, she recently took the time to show her support for her colleague and friend, 

Al Roker, following heartbreaking news within his family.

Sheinelle Jones Stands by Al Roker During Difficult Time

Al Roker’s first wife, Alice Bell, passed away at the age of 77, and their daughter, Courtney Roker Laga, shared a touching tribute in honor of her late mother. 

Among those who acknowledged the emotional post was Sheinelle, who liked the message to show her solidarity during this tough time.

Sheinelle and Al have worked together on the Today show since 2019, and over the years, she has formed a close bond with him and the entire Today family. Al has been a mainstay on the NBC morning show since 1996, making him one of the longest-running and most beloved personalities on the program.

Sheinelle was not the only familiar face to reach out in support of Al’s family. His former Today co-host Tamron Hall commented, “Sending our love,” while Today contributor Joy Bauer shared, “So much love.”

Courtney Roker Laga shared several family photos and reflected on her mother’s impact, writing: “She was my mother, my heart, and the most loving grandmother to Sky. I was with her for her last breath, and I will carry her love with me always.”

Sheinelle’s Absence from Today Explained

Sheinelle has been away from Today since mid-December, leaving fans wondering about the reason behind her prolonged absence. On January 15, her time away from the show was officially addressed on-air, with Savannah Guthrie acknowledging Sheinelle’s personal situation.

“We want to share some news about our friend Sheinelle,” Savannah told viewers. “She posted to Instagram this morning, letting everyone know she has been taking some time off to deal with a personal family health matter. She thanked everyone for their kindness and concern. We know so many of you have been asking about Sheinelle and missing her, and we miss her too.”

Sheinelle had taken to Instagram earlier that day to personally share the reason behind her absence.

“Hi everybody… I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show,” she wrote. “I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter. It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today show family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon. Love, Sheinelle.”

Sheinelle’s Life Beyond Today

In addition to her role on Today, Sheinelle is a dedicated mother of three. She and her husband, Uche Ojeh, share 15-year-old son Kayin and 12-year-old twins, Clara and Uche. Recently, Sheinelle and her son Kayin had a special moment at the White House, where they met President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. She reflected on the memorable interaction in a heartfelt Instagram post, describing how the President offered words of wisdom to Kayin.

“This moment with my oldest son Kayin and @potus and @drbiden transcended politics. I got emotional as the president kindly complimented his attire and then said these words to him with the most sincere eyes – ‘Son, I want to tell you the most important thing. Remember I told you this: always, take care of your mother.’ Kayin replied, ‘I will. Yes, sir.’ – It felt like Biden stopped the clock for a second … so we could take it in. I got a little teary when we left that beautifully decorated room. It was a night we’ll always hold dear.”
