Sheinelle Jones ‘taking time’ away from ‘Today’

NBC Today co-host Sheinelle Jones has announced her temporary departure from the show’s third hour to focus on a private family health matter.

The veteran journalist, who has been a part of Today for over a decade, shared the news in an emotional Instagram post,

expressing her gratitude for the outpouring of support from colleagues and fans alike.

Sheinelle Jones Announces Leave of Absence

Jones, 45, took to Instagram on Wednesday to address her absence from Today, confirming that she has been tending to personal matters behind the scenes.

While she didn’t specify the nature of the family health issue, she made it clear that the situation required her full attention.

“I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show,” she wrote in her heartfelt message.

She continued by acknowledging the overwhelming kindness and encouragement she has received from her Today colleagues and viewers.

“It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today Show family, but to also have all of you,” Jones added. “Your kindness means so much to me.”

Colleagues Show Support

As soon as Jones shared her message, her Today co-hosts and friends flooded the comments section with love and support.

Hoda Kotb, who recently stepped away from Today after hosting for nearly two decades, responded with a heartfelt message:

“We love you… you are being held,” Kotb wrote.

Savannah Guthrie, who read Jones’ statement live on Today Wednesday morning, also expressed how much her presence was missed on set.

“Things are not the same without you,” Guthrie commented, reinforcing how much Jones is valued by the team.

Uncertain Return Date

At this time, Jones has not provided a timeline for her return to Today, leaving fans wondering how long she will be away. Given her dedication to the show and her longstanding career in journalism, it is expected that she will return as soon as she is able.

However, for now, Jones is prioritizing her family and taking the time she needs to support her loved ones.

A Respected Career in Journalism

Sheinelle Jones has been a staple of NBC News for over ten years, bringing warmth, professionalism, and an engaging presence to morning television. She has co-hosted Today’s third hour since 2019, alongside Al Roker, Craig Melvin, and Dylan Dreyer.

Before joining NBC, Jones made a name for herself as a reporter and anchor for Good Day Philadelphia on FOX 29, where she covered major national events and earned recognition for her journalistic excellence.

Jones has also been open about her personal challenges, previously taking a brief medical leave in 2020 to recover from vocal cord surgery. Now, her focus is on her family, and her fans are rallying behind her during this time.

What’s Next?

While the Today show has yet to announce who will fill in for Jones during her absence, it is clear that she will be welcomed back with open arms whenever she decides to return.

For now, her fans, colleagues, and friends are keeping her and her family in their thoughts, sending well-wishes as she navigates this personal journey.
