Kody Brown, the patriarch of the Brown family from TLC’s *Sister Wives*, is navigating a new chapter in his life as a monogamist following the breakdown of his plural marriage.
On the latest episode of the reality series, Kody opened up about his changing family dynamics, reflecting on his past relationships,
the adjustments he’s making in his marriage to Robyn Brown, and how he’s dealing with the aftermath of three divorces.
During the episode, Kody admitted that adjusting to a smaller family unit has been difficult, especially in a life that once revolved around polygamy.
“I think I need a lot of attention,” Kody confessed. “It’s been different to be in a place where I don’t get as much attention.”
As he spends more time with Robyn and their children, Kody is having to come to terms with this new reality.
The change in dynamics is significant, as Kody had been married to Christine, Janelle, and Meri Brown, all of whom have left him over the course of the past few years. Christine Brown, his third wife, left in 2021 and has since remarried to David Woolley, a man Kody says he doesn’t know well but wishes them happiness. “I’m really excited for her,” he shared, despite the unusual situation of his ex-wife moving on so quickly. He added that although he only met David once, he hopes that Christine and her new husband will find happiness in their new life together.
Reflecting on Christine’s departure, Kody acknowledged that each of his wives left for different reasons, but he emphasized that Christine left with a purpose, seeking a connection with her “soulmate.” His acknowledgment of her choice and his ability to accept it seems to represent his shift in mindset, as he moves forward with Robyn. Kody admitted that the situation is strange, as Christine is now his ex-wife, but he noted that it’s no longer his business, and all he can do is wish her well.
While Kody is still processing the end of his plural marriage, he’s working to adjust to his new family structure with Robyn. The two have built a life together, with Kody focusing on their immediate family and the future they’re trying to create. Kody shared that life with Robyn and their children feels “kind,” “pleasant,” and “beautiful,” though he acknowledged that the family’s current dynamic is much smaller than it used to be. The changes are difficult for him, but he’s learning to adapt.
One of the challenges Kody faces is maintaining relationships with his children from his previous marriages. Despite his new focus on Robyn, Kody insisted that he will always be there for his children and that the door to their relationship remains open. “My children will always be my children, and the door will always be open to them,” he said. However, he also emphasized that he won’t “cut off Robyn” in order to repair those strained relationships. Kody seems determined to hold onto his current family, but his comments reveal the complex balancing act between his relationships with Robyn and his children.
Tensions surrounding Kody’s relationship with Robyn have also been a source of conflict. In a previous episode, Kody’s ex-wife Janelle spoke out against his assumption that leaving Robyn behind would fix his estrangement from his children. Janelle expressed frustration, stating that Kody’s thinking was misguided. “He is not really wanted at events. He is not coming regardless of who he brings or doesn’t bring with him,” she explained, revealing that his absence from family gatherings has become a significant issue.
As Kody continues to navigate his new life, he faces the challenge of rebuilding relationships with his children, all while trying to maintain his marriage to Robyn. The Brown family’s journey remains a complex and emotional one, with each member dealing with their own struggles and transitions.
*Sister Wives* continues to air Sundays at 10:00 p.m. ET on TLC, and fans can expect to see more of Kody’s evolving relationships and the challenges he faces in his quest for family harmony.
