In a disappointing conclusion to their season, the Kansas City Chiefs suffered a 40-22 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, 

held at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9, 2025. Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce expressed his dismay during the post-game press conference, 

noting the team’s uncharacteristic performance. “We haven’t played that bad all year,” Kelce remarked. “You don’t lose like that without everything going bad.” 

The Chiefs’ offense, typically a powerhouse, struggled throughout the game. 

Kelce highlighted several issues, including turnovers, penalties, and missed opportunities. “We couldn’t get it going offensively,” he stated. 

“I mean, they just got after us on all three phases and then on top of that, you know, turnovers, penalties, playing behind the sticks on offense.” 

Kelce himself had a subdued performance, failing to record a catch in the first half—a first in his 25-game playoff career. He finished the game with four receptions for 39 yards. Reflecting on the team’s lack of momentum, Kelce said, “We just couldn’t find that spark, couldn’t find that momentum.” 

The defeat also cast uncertainty over Kelce’s future with the team. At 35, he has faced questions about potential retirement. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes addressed this speculation, stating, “I’ll let Travis make that decision on his own. He’s given so much to this team and to the NFL. He knows he still has a lot of football left in him.” 

Despite the loss, Kelce emphasized the team’s resilience. “This team is gonna fight till the end forever and you saw that,” he asserted. “Even with the score late, we were always gonna fight.” 

The Chiefs’ defeat prevented them from achieving a historic third consecutive Super Bowl victory. As the organization looks ahead, decisions regarding veteran players like Kelce will be pivotal in shaping the team’s future.
