‘Stranger Things’ star Millie Bobby Brown shares real name as she admits changing it for ‘s—s and giggles’

Millie Bobby Brown, the breakout star of Stranger Things, recently surprised fans by revealing a fun fact about her name.

During a conversation with actor Chris Pratt for Buzzfeed, Brown admitted that her middle name is not “Bobby,”

as the public has always assumed, but actually “Bonnie.” This revelation left Pratt, her co-star in the upcoming Netflix film Electric State, in a state of shock.

Brown shared this piece of personal information with a light-hearted explanation, saying she changed her middle name for “s—s and giggles” as a part of her stage name.

“My middle name is Bonnie,” she said, confirming it was never “Bobby.” Pratt, clearly stunned, repeated the name,

“Millie Bobby Bonnie Brown?” to which Brown responded, “No, Bobby, it’s Millie Bonnie Brown.” She added with a laugh, “I’ve never told anyone that. You heard it here first!”

This playful revelation sparked curiosity, and many fans speculated whether there might be more to the change than just a whimsical decision. Some have suggested that the choice to use “Bobby” in her stage name could be a tribute to her father, Robert Brown, who has been a significant figure in her life and career. Alongside her mother, Kelly Brown, Robert supported Millie from an early age, helping her navigate the challenges of growing up in the public eye and pursuing an acting career.

Millie Bobby Brown’s rise to fame began when she was just 12 years old, landing the iconic role of Eleven in Netflix’s Stranger Things. The show catapulted her into the global spotlight, where she became a household name. Over the years, Brown has continued to demonstrate her versatility, starring in films like Enola Holmes and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, all while navigating the pressures of growing up in the entertainment industry.

Brown and Pratt are currently promoting their new film Electric State, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, known for their work on several blockbuster Marvel films. The movie is based on Simon Stålenhag’s illustrated novel and also stars a star-studded cast, including Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Woody Harrelson, and Anthony Mackie.

Aside from her career, Millie Bobby Brown has also faced intense scrutiny as she grew from a child star into an adult actress. In response to the growing number of negative comments about her appearance, Brown recently shared a powerful Instagram video where she called out the harmful behavior of some critics. She expressed frustration with how the public refuses to accept her growth, both as a person and an actress.

Brown wrote in the caption of the video, “I started in this industry when I was 10 years old. I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can’t seem to grow with me.” She emphasized that critics expect her to remain frozen in time, particularly referencing her appearance in Stranger Things Season 1. She called the media’s focus on her looks and body “bullying,” and even more disturbing when it comes from fellow women. Brown’s message was clear: she refuses to apologize for maturing on her own terms.

While navigating the pressures of fame, Millie Bobby Brown has also made personal milestones in her life. In 2023, she announced her engagement to Jake Bongiovi, the son of rock legend Jon Bon Jovi. The couple, who tied the knot in May 2024, have been a source of support for each other as they embark on their respective careers. Brown and Bongiovi have discussed their shared values, such as their views on politics, family, and careers, which they believe were important factors in their decision to marry at a young age.

Brown’s openness about her personal life, including the playful admission about her name, has made her even more relatable to fans. As she continues to navigate both her professional and personal life, it is clear that Brown remains grounded despite the fame and scrutiny that come with being one of Hollywood’s brightest stars.

Millie Bobby Brown’s real name and the reasoning behind her stage name offer a glimpse into the actress’s sense of humor and her willingness to break the mold. Despite the challenges she has faced in the public eye, Brown continues to thrive, proving that she can embrace both her authentic self and the persona she has built in Hollywood.
