Strictly Come Dancing star ‘almost froze to death’ on mountain in chilling experience

Anton du Beke, the beloved *Strictly Come Dancing* judge,

has recently shared a harrowing tale from a family ski trip that nearly turned into a life-or-death situation.

The 58-year-old dancer and television personality opened up about the frightening incident on his new podcast, *Putt and Strutt*,

where he detailed how he became stuck on a snowy mountain during a skiing holiday.

While many know Anton for his smooth moves on the *Strictly* dance floor, skiing was far from his expertise.

During a recent trip with his family, Anton found himself in an unfortunate situation when he decided to join them on the slopes, despite his lack of experience with snow sports.

He admitted that he was apprehensive about skiing, explaining, “I don’t ski, so I just went along. It’s a horrible holiday to go along on if you don’t ski. I have no interest, and I’m so fearful of the old pins,” referring to the potential injuries one could sustain while skiing.

Despite his reservations, Anton decided to wander down the mountain, away from the ski lifts. But what started as a simple stroll quickly turned into a nightmare. “I wandered down a snowy mountain and ended up waist-deep in snow. I was stuck,” Anton revealed, recounting the moment he realized he had underestimated the snow’s depth and his own capabilities.

Determined to make the best of the situation, Anton attempted to climb back up the mountain on foot, refusing to take the chairlift for a ride back to safety. “We went up the ski lift back up to the top, but I thought, ‘I won’t get on the thing, I’ll walk up.’ I said, ‘I won’t take that, I’ll walk up.’” He continued, “I got halfway up and got a bit stuck. I was like, ‘This is so embarrassing.’”

Anton found himself trapped in a precarious position with no way to free himself. He was drenched and freezing, describing the ordeal as one of the most humiliating experiences of his life. “I froze to death, I was wet – one of the most humiliating things ever,” he confessed.

His situation quickly escalated into a terrifying near-death experience. As the snow continued to pile around him, Anton feared for his safety and struggled to get out. He mentioned how he wasn’t equipped for such an adventure, wearing jeans and basic snowshoes, which offered little help in such deep snow. “I think I had a pair of jeans on. I had a snowshoe, just like a tennis racket on the bottom of the shoes, just like a normal trainer really, but you can walk on slippery surfaces with it, but you can’t walk in waist-deep snow in them,” Anton explained.

Thankfully, Anton wasn’t left in the dangerous situation for long. With determination and some luck, he managed to free himself and escape the snowy trap. However, the ordeal had a lasting impact, and he humorously described it as one of the most “embarrassing” moments of his life.

This brush with danger prompted Anton to skip a recent family skiing trip during the half-term break. This time, he opted to stay at home, much to the relief of his family, who surely didn’t want to see him in another potentially life-threatening scenario on the slopes.

In addition to his skiing mishap, Anton also shared some fascinating insights on his podcast, *Putt and Strutt*, where he talks about his love for golf. The star revealed that he had once considered pursuing a career in professional golf, a passion that still holds a special place in his heart. With an impressive handicap of one, Anton merges his love for the game with lively conversation in his new podcast, alongside Sky Sports host Sarah Stirk.

The skiing experience, though terrifying, is just one of the many stories that Anton du Beke has entertained his fans with. As a public figure known for his charm and wit, Anton’s ability to turn even the most embarrassing and frightening moments into a relatable tale has only added to his popularity with fans.

While Anton might not be skiing anytime soon, his sense of humor and storytelling continue to captivate audiences both on *Strictly Come Dancing* and through his podcast. As for his near-death mountain experience, Anton will undoubtedly look back at it as one of his most unforgettable—and most cringe-worthy—adventures.
