Strictly Come Dancing* champion Dianne Buswell has revealed that she was left “fuming” after her first encounter with her dance partner, comedian Chris McCausland. 

In the latest episode of their *Winning Isn’t Everything* podcast, 

the duo reminisced about their initial meeting, which involved a rather awkward moment concerning Chris’s mistaken guess about Dianne’s origins. 

During the podcast, Chris recalled the incident, sharing how he was chatting with some of the other professional dancers when Dianne joined the group. 

She introduced herself and then asked the others, “Where do you think I’m from?” 

Chris, seemingly not sure of her background, jokingly guessed that she was from Essex, which immediately didn’t sit well with Dianne. 

The Australian dancer was quick to correct him, and she admitted in the podcast, “You said I was from Essex, and I was absolutely fuming. I then went a lot more Aussie after. I was like, ‘I am from Australia, mate’ (in a distinctly Australian accent) and you were like, ‘Oh sorry, sorry!’”

Despite this small misunderstanding, Dianne revealed that her frustration didn’t last long, and their bond quickly developed into a close partnership. She also shared that even before their collaboration, she had been a fan of Chris’s work and was excited at the prospect of working with him on *Strictly*. “Even though I didn’t think I’d win with you, I did really want to dance with you, because I’d watched a lot of your stuff. I was a bit of a super fan beforehand and Joe (Sugg, her partner) loved you,” she admitted. 

This heartfelt acknowledgment from Dianne highlighted the deep respect and admiration she had for Chris, making their eventual victory all the more special.
