Susanna Reid announces break from Good Morning Britain as she’s replaced by co-star

Longtime Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid has revealed that she will be taking a short break from the ITV morning show.

The popular broadcaster, who has been a staple of the program since its launch in 2014, announced her temporary absence during Wednesday’s (February 12) episode.

A Temporary Farewell

Reid, 53, made the announcement while co-hosting alongside Ed Balls, as the pair tackled the day’s most pressing topics,

including the public inquiry into the 2023 Nottingham attack, the UK’s growing litter problem, and concerns surrounding children’s dental health.

As the episode neared its conclusion, Reid turned to regular political commentators Andrew Pierce and Kevin Maguire,

who were on hand to analyze the latest news. After wrapping up their discussion, she took a moment to inform viewers of her planned time off.

“Andrew, Kevin, good to see you this morning,” she said, before reassuring fans that her absence would be brief. “I will be back after half term. Good Morning Britain is back tomorrow from six, now it’s time to join Lorraine.”

Who Will Replace Susanna?

With Reid stepping away for a well-deserved break, speculation has begun about which of her ITV colleagues will take her place. Although no official announcement has been made, possible stand-ins include seasoned presenters such as Ranvir Singh, Kate Garraway, or Charlotte Hawkins—all of whom are familiar faces to GMB viewers and have stepped in for Reid on previous occasions.

Reid typically fronts Good Morning Britain from Monday to Wednesday, working alongside a rotating team of co-presenters, including Richard Madeley and Ed Balls. Her break coincides with the upcoming half-term holiday, leading many to believe she is taking time off to spend with her family.

Susanna Reid’s Journey on Good Morning Britain

Since joining Good Morning Britain in 2014, Reid has become one of the most recognizable figures on British morning television. Prior to her tenure at ITV, she was a key player at the BBC, appearing on BBC Breakfast, Sunday Morning Live, and The Andrew Marr Show.

Her move to ITV’s flagship morning program was a major shift, and over the years, she has fronted the show alongside an array of co-hosts, from Piers Morgan to Ben Shephard and Martin Lewis. Known for her sharp interviewing skills and ability to hold politicians to account, Reid remains a crucial part of Good Morning Britain’s success.

Other Highlights from the Show

While Reid’s break was one of the day’s notable moments, Good Morning Britain also featured breaking news and entertainment updates during Wednesday’s episode.

At one point, Charlotte Hawkins had to abruptly interrupt the show to deliver urgent news concerning Thames Water. The presenter informed viewers that industry regulator Ofwat is launching an investigation into the company’s failure to implement environmental improvement schemes on time.

According to reports, Ofwat will scrutinize whether Thames Water neglected its environmental obligations over the past five years. The investigation could lead to regulatory action if the company is found to have breached its commitments.

Vernon Kay Teases Reality TV Comeback

In a lighter segment, the show welcomed Vernon Kay, who hinted at the possibility of joining the upcoming celebrity edition of The Traitors or a future installment of I’m a Celebrity: All Stars.

The popular TV and radio presenter, who previously competed in the 2020 season of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, teased fans about his potential involvement in another reality competition. While he stopped short of confirming anything, his remarks sparked excitement among viewers eager to see him return to the small screen in a new role.

What’s Next for Good Morning Britain?

With Reid temporarily stepping away, Good Morning Britain will continue to deliver its usual mix of news, debate, and entertainment with a rotating lineup of presenters.

While fans will miss her presence, they can take comfort in knowing that she will return after the half-term break, ready to resume her role at the helm of one of Britain’s most-watched morning shows.

For now, audiences will have to wait and see which of her talented co-stars will fill in during her brief absence.
