Susanna Reid’s home life – co-parenting three sons and ‘personal choice’ not to marry

Susanna Reid is a familiar face on morning television, bringing viewers the latest news and lively debates as a presenter on Good Morning Britain.

While she is warm and open on-screen, the 52-year-old journalist is far more private when it comes to her personal life.

Despite being in the public eye for decades, she has remained reserved about her home life, her role as a mother, and her personal decisions—including her choice not to marry.

Over the years, Susanna has spoken candidly about motherhood, relationships, and how she spends her time away from the cameras.

She has always prioritized her family, choosing to co-parent her three sons while maintaining an independent lifestyle.

Her Choice Not to Marry

Unlike many public figures who dream of a wedding day, Susanna has never had marriage on her list of aspirations. She has been clear about her views, explaining that she never felt the desire to walk down the aisle.

“It was a personal choice,” she once shared. “It’s a bit of an old-fashioned idea that children are ‘illegitimate’ if you’re not married. Children are legitimate, whether you’re married or not.”

Her decision has remained firm over the years, even when she was in long-term relationships. She reiterated in an interview: “I’ve never wanted [marriage]. I’ve never fantasized about the big day. It was never my ambition to be married. I’m very, very happy at the moment, but I don’t want to be married.”

Relationships and Co-Parenting with Ex-Partner

Susanna was in a relationship with fellow journalist Dominic Cotton from 1998 to 2014. Though their romance came to an end, they remained close friends and even continued living together for a time while co-parenting their three children.

Following their split, she later found love again with Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish. The two bonded over their mutual passion for football, but the relationship came to an end in 2019 when Susanna confirmed she was single once more. Despite being linked to high-profile figures, she has chosen to keep her romantic life private and has not publicly dated anyone since.

Life at Home with Her Three Sons

Susanna is a devoted mother to her three sons, Sam, 20, Finn, 19, and Jack, 18, whom she shares with her ex-partner Dominic. She resides in Balham, London, with her two youngest children and their beloved black rescue cat, Suki.

Her eldest son left home for university in 2020, marking a significant milestone in her parenting journey. While she loves spending time with her boys, she has acknowledged that their eventual departure from home will be an emotional transition.

“When the boys leave home, I know that’s going to be challenging,” she admitted. “But I’m perfectly happy with my own company. I talk to people all day, I have a terrific team, and I love my close-knit family.”

Her Lifestyle – Health, Diet, and Daily Routine

Susanna has made several lifestyle changes in recent years to prioritize her health and well-being. She follows a pescatarian diet, meaning she avoids meat but still eats fish.

In 2018, she also made the decision to give up alcohol, a choice she says she does not regret. “I stopped enjoying it,” she explained. “I prefer life alcohol-free—it’s tiring, and the ‘hangxiety’ got to me. I don’t feel like I can plough on after pints of Guinness the night before. Spending time with the kids is my release.”

However, like many, she found herself indulging more during lockdown, which led to some weight gain. “During lockdown, I put on a stone,” she revealed. “Unrestricted access to the bread bin was my downfall and not doing enough exercise, so I’m back on the Peloton bike and trying to cut out snacking again.”

How She Unwinds After a Busy Day

As the face of Good Morning Britain, Susanna’s days are fast-paced and filled with adrenaline. Presenting live news requires focus and energy, making it difficult to fully switch off after work.

“My mornings are intense with the adrenaline of live news, so switching off is hard,” she shared. To unwind, she enjoys quiet evenings and simple pleasures. “In the evening, I like gentle TV—nothing gruesome. A bath is a must, it completely de-stresses me.”

She also values a good night’s sleep, aiming to be in bed by 10 pm. “On a good night, I switch the lights off at 10 pm and I’m asleep within minutes,” she said.

A Life of Balance and Independence

Despite the demands of her career, Susanna has found a way to balance work, family, and personal well-being. She has made deliberate choices to prioritize what truly matters to her—her children, her health, and her independence.

While she is an open book when it comes to discussing important issues on television, she remains private about certain aspects of her life, choosing to keep her home life a sanctuary. Her decision not to marry is one she stands by confidently, proving that happiness does not always have to come with a wedding ring.

As a dedicated mother, respected journalist, and independent woman, Susanna Reid continues to inspire many with her approach to both her career and personal life.
