The latest documentary about Tiger Woods produced by HBO consists of 2 parts, lasting 190 minutes. 

Directed by Matthew Heineman and Matthew Hamachek, audiences will get a closer look at “Super Tiger”‘s life, from when he was a boy to when he was at the peak of his fame.

Being expected too much from a young age

The film begins with Earl Woods – the father of “Super Tiger” and focuses on the complicated relationship between father and son. “Earl already has a direction for his son ,” Hamachek said. “And it’s not just about golf.”

Tiger Woods is famous for being a golf prodigy, appearing on Michael Douglas’ show when he was just 2 years old. Besides the pressure from fans, media and golfers, he also carries all of his father’s wishes on his shoulders.

In 1996, at the Haskins Collegiate awards ceremony, his father expressed his hopes for his son:

“He will go far in this sport and bring to the world an unprecedented humanitarian value. The world will become a better place to live in, thanks to his existence and presence.

He is My treasure. Please accept it and use it wisely.”

Golf is priority number 1

As a child, Tiger Woods was only allowed to entertain himself with one hobby: golf. His preschool teacher – Maureen Decker – revealed, “Super Tiger” loves to play other sports but is not allowed by his father.

“The other teachers all think he is very annoying. I also agree with them ,” she commented.

Earl did all this to ensure Tiger would have the brightest career possible. “The world needs to be ready to welcome a successful black golfer. I have trained Tiger for this, and he always considers this a serious responsibility.”

During the years that followed, Tiger Woods’ parents turned him into an automatic machine that controlled pressure on the golf course – something cruel but necessary for career success.
