Yes, folks, you read that correctly! After nine years and six kids together, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have finally tied the knot!
The big event happened on Saturday, August 23, 2014. Proving once again that they can keep things private when the really need/want to, the news didn’t break until five days later.
When their rep released the following statement: “On Saturday, Aug. 23, in the presence of family and friends, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were married in a small chapel in Chateau Miraval in France.
It was a non-denominational civil ceremony. It was very much a family affair.”
The rep also stated that all six Jolie-Pitt kids took part in the wedding: Maddox and Pax walked Angie down the aisle, Zahara and Vivienne were flower girls, and Shiloh and Knox were ring bearers.
Such big news as this has to be celebrated, of course, and what better way than a timeline of how the Jolie-Pitt family has grown and evolved?! See it below the cut!
2004- Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt meet on the set of their movie, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, becoming a full-fledged couple approximately one year later (after receiving the blessing of Angelina’s then four-year-old son Maddox, who accepted Brad into the family by “one day, out of the blue” calling him “dad”!).
2005- The new couple welcome a new addition to their family: A six-month-old Ethiopian girl they name Zahara Marley. Only Angelina’s name is on the adoption papers, but it soon becomes clear that she is their baby, not hers. And in December, Brad makes that so legally, by filing papers to adopt both Zahara and Maddox (whose last names are changed from Jolie to Jolie-Pitt).
January 2006- The world realizes just how much Brad has changed Angie when the couple announce that the actress, who once said she didn’t “feel the need” to have biological children, is pregnant!
May 27th, 2006- In the early morning hours, Angelina gives birth (via C-section, due to the baby being breech) to a seven pound baby girl, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, in Swakopmund, Namibia.
March 2007- Angelina (along with Maddox and Zahara. Brad, who is in the midst of filming The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Shiloh- who cameos in her father’s film- wait at home) flies to Vietnam to bring home the newest member of the Jolie-Pitt family, three and a half-year-old Pax Thien.
February 2008- Angelina and Brad attend the Independent Spirit Awards, where the former’s obviously round mid-section confirms what everyone has been speculating for months- the seventh member of the Jolie-Pitt family is on the way!
May 2008- Whoops! At the Cannes Film Festival, Angelina’s Kung Fu Panda co-star Jack Black accidentally lets the cat out of the bag: the brunette beauty and her sweetheart are, in fact, expecting twins! The media goes crazy with this. So crazy, in fact, that before the month is over, they announce that Angie has already given birth, to girls named Isla Marcheline and Amelie Jane. The only problem? It wasn’t true!
July 2008- The month begins on an exciting note for the media and Jolie-Pitt fans: It’s announced that Angelina has been admitted to the Foundation Lenval Hospital in Nice, France, for “routine monitoring”- and will almost certainly remain there until the twins are born. For a week and a half, the world watches and waits with baited breath. Then, on July 12th, it finally happens: Knox Leon Jolie-Pitt arrives at 6:27 p.m., with his sister, Vivienne Marcheline, following just one minute later (like their big sister Shiloh, the babies were born via C-section). Both babies are small (Knox is 5.3 pounds, while Vivienne is 5 pounds even), but healthy, and their proud parents are ecstatic!
