This Pop superstar admitted that he would not accept American Idol’s offer to replace Katy Perry: ‘I dislike Katy’ (video)

As ABC searches for Katy Perry’s replacement on American Idol, there’s one singer who adamantly does not want the job.

Katy, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan first joined the judging panel when ABC revived American Idol in 2018; all three judges have been with the show ever since.

Making for a long stretch of consistency at the judges’ table that hasn’t been seen on American Idol in many years.

Earlier this year, Katy announced that the currently airing American Idol season 22 will be her last season.

American Idol is searching for a new judge to replace Katy Perry, but singer Pink doesn’t want the job.

There have been a lot of names talked about as potential new American Idol judges. Pink weighed in on the speculation when she was recently asked about it by ET.

The pop superstar said if ABC wanted her to join Idol, she would have to turn down the offer.

There are two motives for why she doesn’t want it, and the first has to do with the main duty of a judge. She admitted, “I don’t like hurting people’s feelings.”

She wouldn’t feel comfortable being critical to the contestants. The other is that she likes her “day job.”

Pink would be a fantastic judge on American Idol. It’s disappointing to hear that she has no desire to add talent show judge to her already-impressive resume. Pink is very opinionated and doesn’t hold back how she’s feeling, so it’s interesting to hear that she wouldn’t feel comfortable dishing out any sort of criticism to the contestants. Her second explanation makes perfect sense; she’s at the top of her game in the music industry and is extremely busy with her tour, so she doesn’t need a show like American Idol right now to stay relevant.

Since Katy’s American Idol replacement will not be Pink, the question still remains over who will be sitting behind the judges’ table when filming for the auditions begins later this year. Assuming Lionel and Luke stick around, ABC will only need to hire one judge. Jennifer Lopez was an early name that popped up as a possible replacement; she’s already been an American Idol judge, and it would be great to see her back on the show. Some former Idol contestants have expressed an interest, including Ruben Studdard, Fantasia and Jordin Sparks.

The current American Idol judges have given their own suggestions, including Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift and Jelly Roll. There have been some standout guest mentors throughout American Idol season 22, including Jelly Roll, Meghan Trainor and Gene Simmons. Their recent mentoring sessions could act as unofficial auditions for the soon-to-be-open position in the eyes of ABC executives. No matter who the network hires, it’ll be hard to replace Katy, but they’ll be able to carve out their own lane on American Idol and bring a new perspective to the competition.
