With seven months to go until the first broadcast on ESPN, it has been confirmed that former Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama has inked a deal with the interactive league. 

The Japanese star will join McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf, filling the spot that was vacated by England’s Tyrrell Hatton after he joined LIV Golf for a reported £50m ($63m). 

Spanish golf star Jon Rahm was also down to take part in Woods and McIlroy’s tech-fused league, 

but after he joined the Saudi-backed breakaway tour in December 2023 his spot was filled by Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg. 

Rahm cited commitment issues when he pulled out, but a matter of weeks later joined LIV for a reported half a billion dollars. 

Matsuyama is a nine-time PGA Tour winner. 

The 32-year-old captured the 2021 Masters and it took him until this year’s Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club to return to the winner’s circle. 

Matsuyama’s teammates are McIlroy, Adam Scott and Keegan Bradley. 

TGL, owned by TMRW Sports Group, will launch its inaugural season on 7 January on ESPN. 

The league will be played at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. 

Tomorrow Golf League was originally slated to begin in January 2024, but the venture was delayed for 12 months after the facility sustained damage. 

A power outage caused the collapse of the air-supported dome. Fortunately, nobody was injured.
