Tiger Woods may be one of the greatest golfers of all time, but it seems his daughter, Sam, isn’t following in his footsteps.
According to Woods, Sam has “a negative connotation to the game” because of all the traveling it required him to do when she was younger.
During an interview with Carson Daly on Wednesday’s “Today” show, Woods revealed that his 16-year-old daughter isn’t the biggest fan of the sport.
“She has … a negative connotation to the game, because when she was growing up, golf took Daddy away from her,” Woods said.
“I had to leave, and I’d be gone for weeks.”
“So we developed our own relationship, our own rapport, outside of golf. Meanwhile, my son [Charlie] and I do everything golf related.”
“He’s 15 years old. It’s what happens – it’s what teenagers go through. They’re trying to find their own place in the world.”
However, despite her disinterest in playing, Sam has remained supportive of her father’s career. She even caddied for him at the PNC Championship in December and gave a speech at his Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 2022.
While Tiger may be hoping to play in all three of the remaining Major Championships in 2024, he’s facing some physical challenges.
Following the Masters in April, Woods admitted that he was feeling pretty sore, but he remains determined to continue competing at the highest level.
“I’m just going to keep lifting, keep the motor going, keep the body moving, keep getting stronger, keep progressing,” he noted.
“Hopefully, the practice sessions will keep getting longer.”
