‘Today’ Star Jenna Bush Hager Finally Reacted to Amy Poehler Impersonating Her on ‘SNL’

Jenna Bush Hager has finally shared her reaction to Amy Poehler’s famous impersonation of her on Saturday Night Live,

and it turns out, she has nothing but admiration for the Parks and Recreation star.

The Today co-host recently revealed her thoughts on the long-running impression, giving fans an inside look at how she felt about seeing herself spoofed on national television.

A Hilarious Throwback to Jenna’s Younger Days

During her time on SNL, Amy Poehler frequently portrayed Jenna Bush Hager, particularly during her father George W. Bush’s presidency.

Poehler’s comedic take on the former First Daughter often played up the public perception of Jenna as a fun-loving, carefree college student—something that didn’t always sit well with her at the time.

The sketches, which aired in the early 2000s, featured Poehler’s Jenna alongside her twin sister, Barbara Bush, as the two navigated their lives in the political spotlight. With exaggerated mannerisms and comedic timing, Poehler brought a humorous, albeit exaggerated, version of Jenna to life on SNL.

Jenna’s Long-Awaited Response to Amy’s Impersonation

Despite years of staying silent on the subject, Jenna finally opened up about Poehler’s impression of her. Rather than taking offense, she admitted that she found the entire thing amusing.

“I thought it was hilarious!” Jenna said when asked about it. “Amy Poehler is one of the funniest people ever. How could I be mad about that?”

Her response shows just how much her perspective has evolved over the years. While being the subject of a parody might have felt strange at the time, Jenna now sees it as a lighthearted and fun moment in her life.

Jenna and Amy Finally Cross Paths

Jenna also shared that she had the opportunity to meet Poehler in person years later, and the interaction was nothing short of delightful.

“I actually told her how much I loved it,” Jenna revealed. “I mean, if someone is going to impersonate you, you want it to be someone as talented as Amy Poehler.”

The two reportedly laughed about the impersonation, with Jenna expressing how much she respected Amy’s work—not just as a comedian, but as a writer, actress, and producer.

The Evolution of Jenna’s Public Persona

Jenna has come a long way from the young woman that Poehler once portrayed on SNL. Over the years, she has built a successful career in journalism and television, earning her spot as one of the beloved co-hosts on NBC’s Today with Hoda & Jenna.

Far from the carefree party girl caricature often depicted in the early 2000s, Jenna has proven herself to be an insightful and engaging television personality. She is also a best-selling author, a devoted mother, and a champion of literacy through her Read with Jenna book club.

Looking back, she acknowledges that everyone grows and changes, and she has no hard feelings about the way she was once portrayed in pop culture.

“When you’re young, you don’t always see the humor in things,” she admitted. “But looking back, I just think, ‘Wow, what a fun and ridiculous moment in my life.’”

Jenna’s Graceful Approach to Being in the Public Eye

Jenna’s response to Poehler’s impersonation is just another example of how she handles life in the public eye with humor and grace. Rather than taking herself too seriously, she embraces the fun side of her past and recognizes the role comedy plays in pop culture.

Her ability to laugh at herself and appreciate the talents of others has endeared her even more to fans. Many have praised her lighthearted attitude, with some even suggesting that she and Poehler should team up for a comedic skit in the future.

As for whether Poehler might reprise her impression of Jenna in a future SNL cameo? Jenna is totally on board.

“I’d love to see it happen again. Maybe this time, I could even join in!” she joked.

With Jenna’s infectious energy and willingness to poke fun at herself, it wouldn’t be surprising if fans get to see her and Amy share the screen one day. Until then, her hilarious reaction to the SNL throwback proves that sometimes, the best response is simply to laugh along.
