Today’s Sheinelle Jones asks for support in personal message during time off from show

Sheinelle Jones, a beloved member of the Today show team, was noticeably absent from the program on Friday, leaving viewers wondering about her whereabouts.

Co-host Dylan Dreyer quickly addressed the situation, reassuring the audience that Sheinelle was simply “enjoying the morning off.”

While the television personality did not publicly disclose her plans for the day, it appears she took a well-deserved break ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

However, even on her day off, Sheinelle remained active in using her platform for a cause close to her heart.

She took to social media to highlight an important issue—raising awareness for pancreatic cancer.

A Powerful Message on World Pancreatic Cancer Day

Although Sheinelle was not on air that morning, she used her Instagram to advocate for an important cause. She re-shared a post from her NBC colleague Dave Price, who posted a heartfelt tribute in honor of World Pancreatic Cancer Day. The tribute was dedicated to his late brother, Steve, who passed away from the disease four years ago.

Alongside the repost, Sheinelle penned an emotional message urging her followers to take action. “Today is World Pancreatic Cancer Day. To those who are fighting and to those friends I love who know the sting of this all too well… let’s do what we can to raise awareness, money for research, and get screened,” she wrote.

This isn’t the first time Sheinelle has used her influence to shine a light on critical issues. The television anchor has consistently leveraged her platform to educate, advocate, and inspire, particularly when it comes to health and wellness.

A Passion for Raising Awareness

Throughout her career, Sheinelle has made it a priority to highlight important topics that may not always receive the attention they deserve. In addition to supporting cancer awareness efforts, she has been deeply involved in conversations about fertility.

She executive-produced a documentary titled Stories We Tell: The Fertility Secret, which explores the challenges and emotional complexities surrounding fertility struggles. The project was a deeply personal one for her, as she has been open about her own experiences with health and motherhood.

A Dedicated Journalist and Devoted Mother

While Sheinelle is widely recognized for her work on Today, she is also a devoted wife and mother. She shares three children with her husband, Uche Ojeh—her eldest son Kayin, along with twins Uche and Clara. Though she keeps much of her family life private, she occasionally shares glimpses of her motherhood journey on social media.

In April 2023, her children made a rare appearance on the Today show as part of “Bring Your Kids to Work Day.” It was a special moment for Sheinelle, who shared on social media that it was the first time her kids had seen her in action on set. “I think it was good for them to see what mommy does every morning,” she wrote. “I used to love going to work with my mom … I hope they look back on this day fondly too.”

Sheinelle has also been open about her parenting philosophy. In a past interview, she explained how she strives to create a strong bond among her children while also ensuring they feel valued as individuals. “With all three of my children, I try to show them that they’re ALL a team, and they have to take care of each other,” she said. “At the same time, I’m learning that they each like to know they’re special on their own.”

A Well-Deserved Break Before the Holiday Season

Despite her busy career and dedication to raising awareness for important causes, Sheinelle knows the importance of taking time for herself and her family. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, her brief time away from Today likely provided a chance to relax and enjoy a long weekend before the holiday season kicks into full swing.

Although she was absent from the Third Hour of Today on Friday, Sheinelle’s presence was still felt—both through the heartfelt message she shared online and the impact she continues to make on those who follow her work. As a respected journalist, advocate, and mother, she remains an inspiring figure both on and off the screen.
