They’ve insisted they don’t want their six children to follow them into a life of showbiz so it was surprising.

When Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Vivienne was cast in Jolie’s new movie Maleficent.

However, the 38-year-old actress admitted it was out of necessity rather than choice as all of the other children who auditioned for the movie were terrified when they saw her in character as Sleeping Beauty’s nemesis, with prosthetic cheekbones and horns.

She told Entertainment Weekly magazine: ‘We think it’s fun for our kids to have cameos and join us on set, but not to be actors. 

That’s not our goal, for Brad and I, at all. But the other three- and four-year-old [performers] wouldn’t come near me. It had to be a child that liked me and wasn’t afraid of my horns and my eyes and my claws. So it had to be Viv.’

But not all of Angelina’s children were fine with her transformation into the wicked fairy.

Pax, 10, was terrified the first time he saw his mother in character and ran away crying.

Angelina, who also graces the cover of EW in character,  explained: ‘When Pax saw me for the first time, he ran away and got upset – and I thought he was kidding, so I was pretending to chase him until I actually found him crying.’

Despite the initial scare, her son did get over it, enough that he and Zahara, eight, were extras on set. ‘I had to walk by them being very mean,’ Angelina explained. ‘Of course, I wanted to stop and wink at them.’

Angelina and Brad also have children Maddox, 12, Shiloh, seven and Vivienne’s twin Knox, together.

The Sleeping Beauty reboot promises to tell the untold story of Maleficent, who was simply a nemesis in the original animated 1959 Disney film who put Princess Aurora to sleep.
