Whoopi Goldberg misses The View 2 days in a row after getting the flu: ‘Be careful’

Whoopi Goldberg Misses The View for Two Consecutive Days After Catching the Flu: ‘Be Careful’

Fans of The View noticed an unusual absence from the show this week, as longtime moderator Whoopi Goldberg missed two consecutive episodes due to illness.

The 69-year-old actress and television host, who typically helms the panel of co-hosts, was confirmed to be battling the flu.

Joy Behar Confirms Whoopi’s Flu Diagnosis

During Wednesday’s broadcast of The View, co-host Joy Behar—who often steps in for Goldberg when she is unavailable—shared the news with viewers.

Behar, 82, explained that Goldberg was under the weather and urged the audience to take precautions.

“Whoopi is still out with the flu. It’s going around, be careful,” Behar said, before adding a heartfelt message for her co-star: “We hope you’re feeling better, Whoopi. Come back soon!”

With Goldberg still absent on Thursday’s episode, Behar continued to lead the discussion at the Hot Topics table alongside co-hosts Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sunny Hostin, and Ana Navarro.

Goldberg’s Frequent Absences from The View

While Goldberg is a staple on The View, she has been absent on several occasions in the past, both due to her busy schedule and health-related reasons. This is not the first time she has dealt with illness while working on the long-running ABC talk show.

In recent years, Goldberg has contracted COVID-19 multiple times, which has forced her to take time off from the show. Most notably, she missed the season 27 premiere in 2023 after testing positive for the virus once again.

Apart from health-related absences, Goldberg has also taken breaks from the show for personal and professional commitments. In October 2023, she traveled to Italy to meet with Pope Francis—a meeting that made headlines, as she reportedly discussed Sister Act 3 with him and even extended an invitation for the pontiff to make a cameo in the upcoming sequel.

Whoopi’s Usual Schedule on The View

Goldberg, who has been a co-host on The View since 2007, typically has Fridays off, making her a four-day-a-week presence on the show. Her sudden absence in the middle of the week left some viewers concerned, though Behar’s reassurance that it was due to the flu helped alleviate worries.

Many fans took to social media to wish Goldberg a speedy recovery. “Hope Whoopi feels better soon! The flu has been really bad this season,” one viewer wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Another added, “The show just isn’t the same without Whoopi keeping everyone in check.”

The Flu Season and Health Warnings

Behar’s caution to viewers about the flu going around is backed by recent reports indicating that flu cases have been on the rise across the country. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued warnings about increased flu activity, advising people to take preventive measures such as getting flu shots, washing hands frequently, and staying home when feeling unwell.

Goldberg’s absence serves as a reminder of how easily the flu can disrupt daily life, even for high-profile personalities with demanding schedules. As The View continues without its lead moderator for now, fans are hopeful that she will be back on her feet soon.

Looking Ahead: Whoopi’s Return

While no official statement has been released regarding when Goldberg will return to the show, Behar’s optimistic tone suggests that she may not be out for long. Given her past resilience and ability to bounce back from illnesses quickly, it’s likely that she will reclaim her seat at The View table in no time.

For now, her co-hosts continue to hold down the fort, but viewers are undoubtedly eager for Goldberg’s return—if nothing else, to hear her signature take on the day’s biggest news. Until then, fans and colleagues alike are sending their well wishes, hoping for a swift recovery for the beloved television icon.
