Over the 4th of July weekend, Anne Hathaway and husband Adam Shulman sent a charitable message out to the world in an interesting way—by covering their faces with signs.
As celebrities, the two are often hounded by paparazzi, so on a walk with their dogs around Brooklyn, they decided to put that frustration to good use.
Photographs show Hathaway’s sign as reading: “Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield had a great idea! Please check out: www.girleffect.org, www.feedingamerica.org, www.worldofchildren.org.”
Shulman’s message wasn’t about charity, but about being festive: it read, “Happy 4th of July!” But Shulman is no stranger to philanthropic endeavors.
Last year, he partnered with World of Children Award to design a Limited Edition Key Necklace that featured the nonprofit’s signature logo.
The necklace was released at the 2013 World of Children Awards Ceremony. 100% of the profits supported World of Children Award’s programs serving the needs of vulnerable children.
Stone and Garfield, most recently starring together in “The Amazing Spider-Man,” started the trend of using handmade signs to “bring attention to organizations that need and deserve it.” And with Hathaway and Shulman jumping on the bandwagon, it looks like a trend that’s here to stay.
Last month, Stone and Garfield used the same tactic to deal with a group of photographers in New York City, bringing attention to some of their favorite organizations with their signs.
“Good morning! We were eating and saw a group of guys with cameras outside. And so we thought, let’s try this again. We don’t need the attention, but these wonderful organizations do,” read Stone’s sign with an arrow pointing to Garfield’s, which listed youthmentoring.org, autismspeaks.org, and gildasclubnyc.org.
