The authorities are at the forafter her lover Alexander Pearcewho stole hundreds of millions of pounds from the Russian mafia.

After receiving a letter from the wanted criminal, Elise goes to Venice where he has arranged to meet her. On the train, she becomes close to Frank Tupelo (Johnny Depp), an American math teacher who is enjoying a vacation in Europe.
The guy is immediately suspected of being Alexander Pearce, used to changing his face thanks to cosmetic surgery.
He finds himself embroiled in an adventure as dangerous as it is glamorousmarked by boat chases and the birth of a love story in the city of the Doges.

Paul Bettany, Timothy Dalton, Steven Berkoff and Rufus Sewell round out the cast of The Tourist.
A feature film which, despite a timid start in dark rooms, still harvests more than 278.7 million dollars in worldwide revenue for an estimated budget of 100 million.
A quick shoot for Angelina Jolie

A small success in view of some previous commercial performances of its two headliners (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), which occurs despite killer reviews.
We have to admit that despite all its promising arguments on paper, The Tourist struggles to get the viewer on board in this game of cat and mouse, the fault of a particularly soft realization and the often unconcerned interpretation of Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp.

Asked by Entertainment Weekly in January 2011 on this icy reception from the press, Johnny Depp assures us that he absolutely does not regret having participated in the film and that he “would do it again in the same way”.
In an interview given to Parade (via First), he claims, however, that he “(has) much more fun when (he can) hide behind a hata wig or make-up”. As for Angelina Jolie, she admits to vogue in November 2010 that she agreed to play in The Tourist because the filming wouldn’t take him too long :

I was looking for something very short to do before Brad (Pitt) started filming the Strategist. So I said I needed a project that wouldn’t take too long to shoot, in a nice place for my family.
Someone told me that there was a script lying around, and that the shooting would take place in Venice and Paris. I asked if it was a character I hadn’t played yet. And I was told: ‘Yes, it’s a lady’. (Laughs)
A visibly dazzling enthusiasm that is felt throughout the film.
