Kelly Ripa has always prioritized her family, no matter how busy her schedule as the host of Live with Kelly and Mark may be. 

Her dedication as a mother was once again evident this week when she made a special trip from New York City to Michigan to support her youngest son, Joaquin Consuelos.

A Proud Mom at Opening Night

Joaquin, 21, is currently in his final semester at the University of Michigan and recently stepped into the spotlight as part of a theater production. 

He is starring in A Few Good Men, which opened at the Power Center in Michigan on February 20. 

Understanding the importance of this milestone, Kelly made sure to be in the audience for the big night.

The Hope & Faith actress shared several moments from the evening on social media, including a snapshot of herself inside the theater alongside another proud parent. It was clear she was beaming with pride as she watched her son take the stage.

A Special Birthday Celebration

Beyond his theater performance, Joaquin has another reason to celebrate—his 22nd birthday falls on February 22. Kelly’s visit made the occasion even more special, ensuring she could spend time with him during this exciting week. While her husband, Mark Consuelos, was not featured in the photos she posted, it’s likely he will join the family for the birthday festivities.

A Time of Joy and Grief

Kelly and Mark’s celebration with Joaquin comes during an emotional time for the family. Earlier in February, they suffered a heartbreaking loss when their beloved pet dog, Chewie, passed away.

During an episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, the couple opened up about their grief, with Kelly later sharing a touching tribute to Chewie on social media. She posted a heartfelt message accompanied by a soundtrack of her daughter, Lola, singing.

“I’ve been avoiding posting this because it somehow makes it real and I’m not quite ready to let go,” Kelly wrote. “It’s been extremely painful to lose our beloved Chewie. We ache for her every single day. We still look for her and call to her and frankly feel lost.”

The family’s bond with Chewie spanned nearly 18 years, making her an integral part of their lives. “She grew up with our kids and remained at our sides when each left the nest. She waited by the front door to welcome her siblings back home when they returned for visits. She was our stoic constant companion,” Kelly added.

Despite their heartbreak, Kelly found solace in believing that Chewie was now at peace, “running free somewhere warm and sunny, unburdened by her failing body.” She expressed gratitude to the North Shore Animal League for bringing Chewie into their lives and thanked fans for their supportive messages.

Cherishing Time with Joaquin

For Kelly, being with Joaquin in Michigan was likely a source of comfort amid the family’s loss. The transition to an empty nest was initially difficult for her when Joaquin left for college in 2021, but she has always been vocal about her pride in his accomplishments.

As Joaquin nears graduation, his plans for the future are beginning to take shape. Recently, he expressed an interest in pursuing acting, following in the footsteps of his famous parents and older brother, Michael Consuelos.
