Lorraine Kelly issues stern message to Wynne Evans over sexual comment

ITV presenter Lorraine Kelly has made her feelings clear regarding Wynne Evans’ recent inappropriate remark about Strictly Come Dancing co-star Janette Manrara.

The incident, which occurred during the Strictly live tour launch in Birmingham earlier this month, has sparked widespread backlash.

On Monday’s edition of her show, Lorraine delivered a pointed three-word message to the former opera singer: “Do better, mate.”

Evans, 53, had been caught on tape making a crude sexual comment about Manrara, which immediately drew public criticism.

Lorraine addressed the situation directly during her show, acknowledging the controversy without holding back.

“The former opera singer has been in the headlines, though, after being overheard making a crude sexual remark towards It Takes Two presenter Janette during a photocall,”

Kelly explained. “I shan’t say what he said, suffice to say, it’s really not on.”

The comment came as part of a string of controversial moments involving Evans, who had previously competed on Strictly and had returned to take part in the live tour. The remark was captured on film, and though Lorraine chose not to repeat the details, she made it clear that Evans’ behavior was inappropriate and unacceptable.

Following the backlash, Wynne Evans issued an apology, acknowledging his mistake. “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise,” he said in a statement. However, despite the apology, Kelly’s harsh assessment of the situation was evident. She didn’t mince words, sending a clear message to the opera singer about the importance of professional conduct and respect.

A spokesperson for the Strictly Live Tour and BBC Studios also responded to the controversy, emphasizing that Evans’ behavior would not be tolerated. The spokesperson added that while they had not previously been aware of the comment, they made it clear to Evans that such conduct was unacceptable. Fortunately, no formal complaints had been lodged at the time, though the incident has nonetheless cast a shadow over Evans’ involvement in the tour.

This incident comes after previous moments of tension between Evans and his Strictly dance partner, Katya Jones. The pair, who were partnered together for the last season of Strictly, had already sparked media attention when footage from an October episode showed Katya apparently rejecting a high-five from Evans. Further viral attention was drawn when a video showed Evans placing his hand on Katya’s waist during a rehearsal, leading to speculation about their relationship dynamics.

Katya later addressed the rumors, denying that she felt uncomfortable or offended by Evans’ actions. “I didn’t feel awkward or uncomfortable in any way,” she explained, brushing off the negative commentary that followed. In the wake of the more recent comment about Janette, Wynne Evans expressed his own distress, admitting that he was “heartbroken” after reading the online criticism. Despite his apology and efforts to clarify his intentions, Evans’ reputation has taken a hit, particularly given the serious nature of the comment made to Manrara.

Evans is currently still involved in the Strictly Come Dancing UK tour, which includes notable names such as Jamie Borthwick, Tasha Ghouri, JB Gill, Montell Douglas, Sarah Hadland, and Shayne Ward. Manrara, the host of the live event, is joined by a panel of judges including Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, Craig Revel Horwood, and Motsi Mabuse.

While the apology from Evans may have been a step toward reconciliation, the public’s reaction suggests that the incident has raised important questions about accountability and the expectations placed on those in the entertainment industry. Lorraine Kelly’s direct message, urging Evans to “do better,” resonates as a call for greater respect and professionalism within the entertainment world.

As the tour continues, Evans will need to demonstrate genuine growth and understanding if he hopes to rebuild his reputation. The episode has also opened up broader discussions about the importance of maintaining professional boundaries and respecting others, particularly in high-profile environments where public figures are constantly in the spotlight. For now, Wynne Evans faces an uphill battle as he attempts to navigate the fallout from this latest controversy.
