It’s only fitting that the movie adaptation of a book with such impressive sales would tap Rihanna to star.

Valerian was a series of graphic novels created in 1967 by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres that has since sold more than 10 million copies world wide.

While the recording artist was recently named the first artist ever to surpass RIA’s 100 million Gold & Platinum song certifications. 

Talk about star power…Could the pairing be more perfect?!

This won’t be Rihanna’s first time taking a stab at acting. 

She lent her voice for a lead role in DreamWorks Animation’s Home last year and landed her big screen debut co-starring in Peter Berg’s Battleship.

Valerian’s director Luc Benson unveiled the exciting news on his Instagram today, confirming that Rihanna will join the ranks of Dane DeHaan, Clive Owen, and none other than our favorite model-turned-actress, Cara Delevingne, who most recently starred in Paper Towns and appeared as all of the mermaids in PAN.

While it hasn’t been reveled who Rihanna will be playing, we know this much: the movie’s adventures have heavy time travel themes with some hints of space opera. Original soundtrack featuring Rihanna? Probably.

With an $180 million-budget that has already been slotted for July 21, 2017 release, we expect nothing short of mind-blowing.
